Warren Beatty, Rob Reiner despised in Calif.
Quote:
Poll: Little love for Reiner, Beatty
From Associated Press
Director Rob Reiner and actor Warren Beatty are well known to California voters if either decides to run for governor next year, but a poll shows they aren't particularly well liked.
A Field Poll released Tuesday rates the name recognition and images of announced and possible candidates for seven statewide offices next year.
Reiner and Beatty made the list as potential Democratic nominees to challenge Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's reelection bid. While neither has said he intends to run, their opposition to Schwarzenegger during the just-concluded special election generated buzz among Democratic activists.
About two-thirds of the registered voters surveyed said they already had opinions about Reiner and Beatty, but most viewed the two unfavorably. In Reiner's case, 41% of voters viewed him in an unfavorable light, compared with 25% who liked him. About 48% of voters viewed Beatty unfavorably, compared with 16% who saw him in a positive light.
Although the numbers aren't necessarily good news for Beatty and Reiner, both had higher name recognition than the two announced Democratic candidates for governor. Just 35% of voters said they had an opinion about state Treasurer Phil Angelides, while 29% said that about state Controller Steve Westly.

I agree Sputnik. I mean, Reagan was another actor acting like a politician and look where that got us. But Beatty actually has a grasp of the issues and has been heavily involved in politics for years. I don't think he'll run, though.

^^ There aren't a lot of upsides to being in politics any more if you're honest and don't want your life, plus everyone you know, to be in a harsh spotlight. Of course, if you're a corrupt born again/right-wing idealogue on the take -- politics is made for you!
Sad, really.

I LOVE Warren (big surprise) but he's been a bit teasy, a bit wishy washy as far as committing to run goes. But he's now made it clear that he loves his life, he has 4 children young enough to be his grandchildren (he's 68) whom he wants to enjoy to the fullest, and he just wants to exercise his right to be a good, opinionated, citizen who makes full use of his democratic right to free speech! He most recently, and most successfully, did so when he helped the unions for the teachers, policemen, firemen and nurses win against Der Governator earlier this month.
He started doing campaign volunteer work for JFK and later more closely for/with Bobby K., George McGovern and Gary Hart.
Young Warren in a tete a tete with Bobby Kennedy and years later a shaggy, bespectacled Beatty with Teddy Kennedy.

That man has some serious hair, eh? I always forget. Anyway, the best thing he ever did was get serious with Annette Benning.

Well, he did, once, way back in his prime. Not too much left any more, though he can't complain for a 68-year old
