Mother arrested for beating her ten year old in Walmart

PHOENIX, AZ -- A 10-year-old boy was screaming, telling his mother to stop. She didn't, according to witnesses, who saw the abuse at a Phoenix area Wal-Mart up close. Some of them even took a picture of the beating on their cell phones.

The child, Carlos Baca, was shopping with his mother Tina Tatum and his grandmother on Sunday, August 13th. Witnesses say Tatum punched her son with a closed fist, hit him in the back, stomach, and arms and then proceeded to drag him outside to the Wal-Mart parking lot .

Shortly after that, calls flooded the police dispatch center reporting the abuse. It turns out Tatum went to prison in 2005 for child abuse. Her 3-month-old son died in 2003 after her then-boyfriend Pedro Peralta shook the infant to death.

Peralta plead guilty to first degree murder in that death and a second baby's death nine months later. Witnesses in the store also reportedly caught Carlos' grandmother grabbing him by the hair and pulling him out of the store. Both women are under investigation.

I literally could not go to sleep the other night after seeing this on the news. Had I been in the store I probably would have gone to jail for stepping in. This shit makes me so crazy. If this is what happens in public, imagine what that kid went through in private.

I think I would have stepped in, that "mother" would have gotten a stroller to the face and she'd have to get through me to hit that child again. Poor little guy, why the fuck do people think that beating the shit out of a child is going to teach them anything other than violence. Mind you, me beating the crap out of the mother would make me a hypocrite, but it's a risk I'm willing to take.

I guess it's good that people got it documented on cell phone pictures. Maybe they can use it against this fucker in court.

My thoughts exactly. Who is the judge that left a child in her care? You'd think that would be grounds to have all other kids removed.

I'm with you on this one. It's heartbreaking to think what kind of life this poor child endured when no one was looking. It makes me almost as mad that no one stepped in to protect the boy. I could not just walk by and let this bitch treat her child like that without stepping in... there are limits. It gives me great satisfaction to think of this bitch getting a stroller upside the face.

I would hope to think that I would step in and get in between her and her son that she is beating. Multiple people called the cops, so surely someone could have jumped in and taken a hit (or given a few in return) for that little guy.
