Default Police: Boot camp (for troubled teens) girl dragged with van

Police: Boot camp girl dragged with van - Yahoo! News

Authorities charged the director of a Christian boot camp and an employee with dragging a 15-year-old girl behind a van after she fell behind the group during a morning run.
Charles Eugene Flowers and Stephanie Bassitt of San Antonio-based Love Demonstrated Ministries, a 32-day boot camp for at-risk teens, are accused of tying the girl to the van with a rope June 12 and dragging her, according to an arrest affidavit filed Wednesday.
Flowers, the camp's director, ordered Bassitt to run alongside the girl after she fell behind, according to the affidavit. When the girl stopped running, Bassitt yelled at her and pinned her to the ground while Flowers tied the rope to her, according to the affidavit.
The girl was treated for scrapes and bruises on her stomach, legs and arms.
The girl's mother gave investigators photos of her daughter's injuries and a sworn statement from a witness who claimed to have seen the girl dragged on her stomach at least three times.
Flowers and Bassitt remained jailed Saturday on $100,000 bond each on aggravated assault charges.
A call to Love Demonstrated Ministries was not immediately returned Friday. No listing was found for Bassitt. An answering machine at a listing for Flowers cut off during an attempt to leave a message Friday.

I hate these boot camps and everything they represent, especially the Christian ones.

Well after "pray away the gay" rehab centers, Chirstian boot-camps don't seem that strange.

This is actually not that shocking at all with the numerous "fix-it" camps radical religiosos advertise. I love how Christian parents are the first to send their kid away when trouble emerges, it seems all that praying hasn't taught them much about being a parent...

What would Jesus Do? Apparently drag your kid behind a van to shake the fear of God in them, oh yeah and to make sure they get their exercise too...because Obesity is a sin!

"Last year, Love Demonstrated Ministries reported private and government contributions totaling $314,673 to operate the boot camp, with nearly 89 percent of the costs, $278,549, going for salaries."

"Patrick Crimmins, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, said it "appeared that this operation is probably exempt from our regulation.""

    Exempt from regulation why?

I saw a post linked to several places in Livejournal of a fist-hand account of being in one of these camps.

This is a tragedy, and this girl was killed through sadistic "we know what is best for you" BullShit...I have no feeling for the people who killed her. They are evil. They are cold-blooded killers. Decades ago, they would be Nazis.

These places are insane! The parents that send their kids to these shitholes should be jailed for abuse and have their kids taken away permanently. In Florida and in California these so-called Christian camps are under investigation for murdering a couple of kids. The most recent case happened in Florida.

Am I missing something, I didn't read that they killed her?

Thanks, Sweetie. I had just finished reading about a case where the kid died in a similar situation, and got mixed up. I do that sometimes when I'm angry...
