Kid forced to clean urinals as punishment.
PIKESVILLE, Md. -- An alleged punishment in a school bathroom has outraged a Baltimore County mother.
Zabrina Lacks said the assistant principal of Milbrook Elementary School allegedly forced her second-grade son to clean urinals in a school bathroom.
WBAL-TV 11 News education reporter Tim Tooten reported that school officials have started investigating the alleged incident, but Lacks claimed the administrator admitted to the punishment, saying he did nothing wrong.
Tooten reported the incident involves a 7-year-old boy who was allegedly forced to clean three urinals using paper towels after he accidentally urinated on the floor and walls.
"He said, because he had to go real bad, some (urine) actually hit the floor and went on the wall," Lacks said.
Lacks said two of her son's classmates who noticed what happened reported him to a teacher and the assistant principal.
"My son could have caught any type of disease in that bathroom, not only from his urine, but other people's urine, other children's urine that he had to clean up," Lacks said.
The mother said she found out about the alleged incident from reading a note sent home from school administrators and speaking to her son.
She said that when she and her husband went back to the school to meet with the assistant principal, he didn't deny the incident.
"The assistant principal felt what he did was justified. He told me that when kids urinate on the floor or urinate on the walls, they are to clean it up," Lacks said.
Baltimore County school officials, when approached about the alleged incident, refused to talk on camera.
Instead, they issued the following statement:
"When allegations of incidents such as this arise, it is Baltimore County Public Schools' procedure to thoroughly investigate the facts of the case and, if necessary, to take appropriate action. That practice is being followed regarding this issue."
When asked what bothers her most about the situation, Lacks responded: "The fact that an assistant principal is imposing this type of disciplinary action on a 7-year-old, that's the part that hurts the most."
Lacks, through telephone calls and e-mails to the superintendent's office, has asked for the Milbrook assistant principal to be fired. She said a top administrator promised her the administrator would be reprimanded.
The mother has since transferred her son to another school.

I don't think that sounds unreasonable. At 7 yrs old, he knows right from wrong and should be able to use a toilet correctly. Maybe I'm to old school but I don't personally think there's anything wrong w/this.....he made the mess, he needs to clean it up. Not up to the custodian to that.....
And gosh, maybe the kid will learn a lesson and not do it again!!!

Bah - they can sniff a quick, litigious buck here. The little shit (pardon the mixed metaphor) probably deliberately pissed everywhere so yes, let him clean it up. He won't pick up any 'germs' if he washes his hands afterwards (probably for the first time in his life).

Did he have to clean the urinal, or just the mess he made? If it was just the mess he made, I totally agree in the school's decision. But I don't think it was fair if he had to clean the urinal, that's where the pee is supposed to go anyway.

Mom needs a slap. I mean come on....they let kids who fail pass to the next year, they might as well teach some discipline.

Urine is usually sterile unless someone has a kidney infection or a UTI; in those cases the urine can contain bacteria.

The grade school by me has a rather diverse background of students (I won't specify as I don't want this to go in a negative direction) and some children from certain countries will urinate and do their bowel movements in the corners of the bathroom. (it's a cultural thing) Now it's truly not fair to the students and staff that have use these bathrooms nor the staff that has to clean these bathrooms.
What do you do?
I'm on the fence about this 7 year old - hard to say if it's a personal issue or a prank. Do children really tattle on other children's urination abilities??? That to me would suggest a prank rather an accident but how do you know for sure if you're talking about children ratting out another child?
Dunno.
Either way, I would hope his aim will improve as not to have to clean up after himself again.

personally, i don't care if in certain countries you relieve yourself in the corners of the bathroom. once you start going to a school where there are toilets, you learn to use toilets right away.....in my opinion, there shouldn't be any excusing that type of behavior (aside from the first time). other kids should not have to walk through (around, near, etc.) human waste while attending school. very unsanitary. stay home until you learn to use a toilet. and, if you make the mess, you should be in part responsible for cleaning it up.

As long as the kid used gloves and cleaned up the mess he made, followed of course by a vigorous hand-washing, then I see no problem. Seems to me the kid did it on purpose, since other kids went tattling to whomever about the piss on the wall, etc.
FYI: It is not standard that every school has both cold AND HOT water in its bathrooms, let alone soap and paper towels. EW! When I did work in the public schools back home, it wasn't unusual for the girls' bathroom to have cold water and that's it, no hot water, no soap, and certainly no paper towels.

When I was a freshman in high school, I puked in the hall on the way to the bathroom. The only girls' toilets on my floor were on the other side of the building and I didn't make it in time. If we had had potty parity in my high school, I'd have made it. I didn't clean up my own puke. Should I have?

Exactly.. you can't catch anything from urine, especially dried up urine. If the kid can't aim right, he should clean up his mess! Just like women who piss all over the toilet seat should wipe up their urine afterwards instead of leaving it for the next unfortunate woman.

Ugh, I HATE hoverers. Jesus christ, some people are so fucking precious about where they put their butts. I sit bare-assed on public toilets...even rest-stop toilets...and I've never caught anything from them. Ever. EVER.

Oh for pete's sake, YES. My ass is too pristine to sit on this nasty toilet that the rest of you disgusting people have defiled, so I will just hover & spray my piss all over the seat & the floor. I will also refuse to flush, because that would defile my hand.
I wish I could catch somebody hovering. I'd give them a kick & tip them over.
Ok, I am dying to know in what country people poop in the corner. I simply MUST know.
