Deadbeat Dad Makes U.S. History At LAX
Father Pays $311,491 In Back Child Support

(CBS) LOS ANGELES A deadbeat dad paid back $311,491 to his former family in Los Angeles on Monday, creating history with the largest sum ever collected in the United States, county officials announced today.

The father, whose name has not been released, paid the back the money after he was flagged down at Los Angeles International Airport. Because he failed to pay $6,000 a month in support to his ex-wife and 12-year-old daughter, the Federal Passport Intercept Program stopped him as he tried to enter the country from China.

"Rigorous enforcement of child support orders works," said Supervisor Don Knabe, who earlier this week appropriated $500,000 to help the District Attorney's Office increase enforcement of child support orders against delinquent parents.

"For every dollar we invest in child support enforcement, we see a return of $2 in collections that are passed directly on to the families," he said. "These efforts will improve the well-being of children in our communities, and I can't think of a better return on our investment than that."

A Federal Office of Child Support Enforcement commissioner confirmed the collection is the largest delinquent child support payment in United States history.

Wow, thats alot of money! I know of a celebrity father who pays $15,000 a month in child support though. The kid is pretty much set for life.

oh well, thats the law and his sorry ass got off easy i think for not being around anymore to father his kid. i mean come on, how much is a parent worth to someone? A lot of money - actually priceless imo so if you wanna leave the family you created then you have to at least pay a price.

Oh don't get me wrong ... the money is for the kids and the kids deserve whatever they can get. I'm in the process of a divorce, and it's looking like I'm going to get $120/mo for two kids, so 6 grand for one seems astronomical!!!

child support is usually based on income I know alot of deadbeat parents who will only work for cash so that they don't have to report it to child support that's what my dad did bless his heart the bastard lol

yeah, well, he's an asswipe... I have one child. I get $1000 and $6000 does seem a little steep. What seems shitty is that he had the money to pay so it wasn't a case of him being broke, just being a cheap, no good, sperminator... may his dick shrink all three inches and the jizz dry up altogether.

Yeah, I think that is what my ex does. The Rat Bastard owes over $60,000.00 and as far as I’m concerned he can shove it up his ass… we are just fine with out him, thank you very much!

The mom would be just in spending some of that money - she's supported that child alone for a long time now. Not all of it, mind you - there should definitely be a shitload of it put away for the kiddo

they do. in most, if not all cases, the money is just handed over to the mom. I know a mom who used the back child support to make a down payment on a house - which isn't all that bad because the money was, in a way, spent on the kid.

I don't agree with that. She didn't buy that house for the kid, she may try to justify it that way but that is not what child support is for.
I may be wrong in my beliefs but I think child support is to be spent only on the child and the child's needs; not for car payments to run the child around or a big house and stuff like that. I like to think people use it for schooling, braces, clothing, food and outing for the child...stuff like that.
