J.K. Rowling plans to help Madeleine McCann search
J.K.R. plan to help Madeleine search
HARRY Potter author JK Rowling is considering putting bookmarks bearing the face of missing Madeleine McCann in copies of her final instalment about the world's favourite boy wizard.
Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, the seventh and last book in the series, is due out on July 21 amid mass publishing hysteria.
Indirect approaches have been made to Rowling about featuring four-year-old Madeleine in the books. Kate and Gerry McCann are determined to keep their daughter's abduction 31 days ago in the public eye in the hope that someone might hold the key to her whereabouts.
They are halfway through a series of trips around Europe and Morocco to publicise their daughter's disappearance from an Algarve resort.
Rowling has already publicly supported the campaign to find Madeleine by contributing to a multi-million-pound reward and has been asked about involving the little girl in the launch of her latest book.
Mr McCann said: "There has been some indirect contact with her. We are thinking about getting bookmarks with Madeleine's photographs and getting the author's agreement.
"Someone like JK Rowling has got massive appeal and a Harry Potter book would be ideal."
Last night, the McCann's pledged to stay in Portugal to look for their daughter until there is "absolutely no hope".
"I would have to feel that the investigation in Portugal has been exhausted," Mr McCann said. "I think we are a long way away from that."
He added: "If you give up hope you are basically saying she is dead. No parent would do that."
Describing her abduction, he said: "It's like the same as having a bereavement, being diagnosed with cancer. There are lots of mixed emotions, and anger is one of them."

Being even more mean....... I'm afraid the chances of finding these kids alive is practically Zero. I don't want to think about what they go through at the hands of these sick bastard pedos and frankly they are probably better off dead but we should be realistic here. It's been over a month with absolutely no news, no arrests, no leads, no clues, nothing.

Honey when I see her picture it breaks my heart because I have a little girl her age.
But it IS infuriating because I know that there are lots of poor and/or minority children who go missing every day and there is NO INTEREST in them.
Children are being killed wholesale in Iraq...where it the outrage for that?
While my heart breaks for her family, a lot of families are going through the same pain and are ignored by the public.

No you're not the only one. At the board I got it from, ONTD, many were angry about the special treatment this little girl is getting. One poster wrote that 1200 children have gone missing form England since Madeleine disappeared.
Also when Natalie Holloway disappeared, a black college girl disappeared on a trip to Africa. I can't remember any coverage for her case.
You know, this probably sounds worse but I'm having a bit of a problem with the fact that the parents were negligent. They could have easily afforded a babysitter. Of course I hope they find her. I hope Rowling finds a way to give exposure to more missing children as well though.

I'm afraid the UK media has decided to run with this particular case because the parents are white, middle-class, photogenic professionals (both doctors) and the little girl is a cutie. I'm sure they are feeling guilty as hell (and so they should) about their laziness/negligence/complacency which they are going to have to live with every single day for the rest of their lives.

We were in England when this happened and it was pretty much the only thing on the news. It was ridiculous how much media coverage this got. I was outraged at all of the pity for the family--those idiots LEFT those kids alone! I think they should be prosecuted for child endangerment or whatever they have in the UK for this sort of thing. I guess I am mean, but I do not feel sorry for the parents. At all. I feel sorry for the child.

Not mean at all. The double standard is sickening-let's all get outraged over the middle-class blonde haired girl, but ignore all the other missing kids.
And I agree with A*O, I don't see much of a chance of the little girl being alive anyway.

Okay Alert Bot edited my title, but it is not correct. Rowling has not commited to this plan. It is a "plan" to get Rowling involved further.

Some people feel that pictures of Madeleine on bookmarks given with HP books would freak out young readers. I don't know, in my house, my children would definitely want to discuss it.

I'm all for teaching kids about Stranger Danger but I think this kind of blanket media frenzy/hysteria is going to make people even more paranoid and their kids over-anxious about a threat that, while real, is still very unlikely to happen. I don't think young kids are capable of fully understanding the issues and implications of this case and bombarding them with pictures of an abuducted child is going to either unduly distress them or they won't be in the slightest bit interested. Kids can be very callous like that.
