Man-that sure was brave. She does not sound like Mother of the Year!
Sorry about that son! Baby elephant reunited with the mother who tried to kill him | the Daily Mail
Her trunk curved protectively around her four-day-old baby, Pori the African elephant is a picture of motherly devotion.
It is hard to believe that this is the same creature which stamped on her new-born son and pushed him into a waterhole.
Readers were shocked by pictures of the incident at the Friedrichsfelde animal park in Berlin.

All is forgiven, as mother and baby are reunited
It seemed inconceivable that three-ton Pori, who killed another of her calves in an accident several years ago, would be allowed to stay with her son, nicknamed Dumbo.
Yet staff believe that Pori was merely having an attack of post-natal nerves.
They gave her a mild sedative and placed her with Dumbo in the elephant house - albeit under round-the-clock guard.
Their faith in her maternal instincts appears justified. Scroll down for more pictures...
Happy mum's back to her old self, Dumbo wants to play a game
"Mother and son are getting along magnificently now," said Claus Pohle, deputy director of the park where Dumbo was born on Sunday.
"They are cuddling up to one another. The other elephants in the herd have fully accepted the baby.
A quick hug for mum
"Our newborn has found his mother's teats and is being weaned."
Pohle thinks that Pori is over her bout of nerves and that mother and son will develop a "strong and lasting bond".
The incident has turned Dumbo into Germany's top animal celebrity - and relegated Knut the Berlin Zoo polar bear into second place.
Zoo staff rescue Dumbo from his mother's onslaught
Pori's mother appeared to try and stamp on the youngster yesterday
Knut became a cause celebre after he was abandoned by his mother and animal rights activists said he should be destroyed rather than brought up by human hand. But he is growing up fast and is no longer the cuddly bundle of fluff that made the world say "aaah".
I think I'm in love with that baby elephant <3

Man, that baby elephant is just adorable. If I was the zoo keeper, I would have trouble sleeping at night...with the awful thought of finding that baby dead, because the mother threw another one of her tantrums. Hope that baby gets a chance to grow up![]()
They elephants are quite emotive; maybe she needs counseling after teh ordeal with her last one... or maybe she's a wacked out elephant and lost her mind rocking back and forth in captivity...
How absolutely adorable. I want a baby elephant! I'll keep him in the backyard and name him Peanut.
I wanna know how much the little bugger weighed when they pulled him out of that water by his proboscis![]()

They are indeed. We had quite a character here, at the LA Zoo, up until a week ago. Her name is Ruby and she's 46 or 47. She's a spitfire. They just weren't doing right by Miss Ruby. They separated her from her partner, another female named Gita and sent Ruby to another zoo. Neither of the two did well. Gita stayed in LA and stayed laid back as always. Ruby was ready for a throw down with all the new elephants. Finally, do to much protest, they brought Ruby back. Only to have Gita die within the next couple of years. Ruby never really recovered. Last week, they moved Ruby to a 70 acre sanctuary in Northern California. She is so cute and funny. She has a 20,000 SF "house" to sleep in at night with her own elephant jacuzzi and three other African elephants to keep her company. Hopefully, her remaining years will be happy ones. Sorry to go a bit off topic, but they are very emotional.![]()
I hope this little guy grows big and strong.
