Kids fight in classroom and the teacher does nothing
Quote:
ORLANDO, Fla. -- A Central Florida substitute middle school teacher is being accused of watching two students fight in a classroom and not doing anything to break it up.
The fight, between two seventh-grade girls in a classroom full of students at Robinswood Middle School in Orlando, was captured on another student's cell phone.
"I'm concerned for her safety. If this is how they handle fights in the school, I hope there's another school that's better or can accomodate me and my dauther," Sharon Graham, the mother of one of the students involved in the fight, said.
Graham said her daughter fought to protect herself.
But the school's principal told Local 6 News that the substitute teacher, an unidentified man, followed protocol, calling an adminstrator when the fight broke out.
"The teacher was just sitting there, and as soon as they started hitting each other, the teacher had called someone else," student Partrick Charite said.
Witnesses also told Local 6 News that the substitute teacher said, "Let them fight," during the scrum.
Local 6 News reported that another teacher eventually broke the fight up.
The girls involved in the melee were each supsended for 10 days. Teacher Accused Of Watching Students Fight - Local News Story - WKMG Orlando

So basically, all adults have now stopped taking responsibility for the kids in their care. Great. Video at the link...this is no slapping fight.

Hmmm. I defintely think she should have done something. But jump in the middle? Not so sure. If she'd inadvertently put even a bruise on this woman's kid or held her arm "too hard" or some other ridiculous shit like that in the course of stepping in the middle to break it up or restrain someone and possibly ending up in a position of defending herself, that same mom would probably be ready to have the teacher's job.

The teacher was a man and really, what has become of the world where two kids this young can have a go at each other and the one adult present doesn't step in? Actually, if you look at the video, no one steps in. And when did it become ok for kids to fight in classrooms? What ever happened to waiting till after school and sorting it out of view of adults?

Hey, I agree. But I can also see why a teacher in this time would hesitate to intervene.

Exactly. Especially since he's a man he'd be wise not to touch one of these girls, lest he be charged with trying to fondle one of them.
And when did it become ok for kids to fight in classrooms?
I would guess about the same time it became acceptable to pull down your pants and show your teacher your ass crack.

^^hehehe...still can't see anything wrong with mooning. According to my Dad, mooning was quite the thing to do in the 40's and 50's and everyone saw it for what it was...an ass showing his ass.

I don't think it's a huge deal in itself, but the lack of respect for teachers and for the school setting realy disturbs me. It seems that if a kid didn't cut somebody's head off then nothing else is that big of a deal. I think school is a place to learn and the classroom should be respected with a lot higher standards of conduct than we have become tolerant of (and i'm not talking about bringing 2 tylenol to class for your cramps type of tolerance).

I say mooning and fighting should all take place after school.

^^Exactly, Mel. Keep those activities where they belong: out of sight of the adults who will spoil your good times. Although I still think the brown eye incident is hilarious.

The teacher did what he was supposed to do. He followed protocol and called an adminstrator when the fight broke out. I would have done exactly the same thing.
Why risk getting injured in the process of breaking it up?
Nope, not gonna do it. Let the idiots fight...

Are adults really this afraid of kids? I'd step right in, bang their heads together and consequences be damned. If they tried to press charges against me, it would be a great soap box for me to spout my feelings on this from.

i can as well...heavy lawsuits might result...i once saw a fight between two girls in a deli, one of them was rather enormous and wearing a very short mini-skirt...they hit at each other and went down on the floor and one pulled a hair extension piece from the others' head..it only lasted a minute or so but i remember being so surprised, i had never seen anything like it before..everyone stood around watching in dismay till management asked them to leave

^^So you think mooning a teacher is equal to fighting in the classroom?
