67-year-old woman gives birth to twins....*sigh*
MADRID (Reuters) - A 67-year-old Spanish woman became the world's oldest new mother on Saturday when she gave birth to twins, a Barcelona hospital said.
The woman, who became pregnant after receiving IVF treatment in Latin America, gave birth by caesarean section, a spokeswoman at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i San Pau told Reuters.
Both the woman, from the southern Spanish region of Andalucia, and babies were in good health, the hospital said, although the new-borns had been placed in an incubator.

The unidentified woman, who was giving birth for the first time, is one year older than Romanian Adriana Iliescu who had a baby girl in January 2005 at the age of 66. She had been pregnant with twins, but one died in the womb.
The hospital declined to give the woman's name or specify the sex of the babies.
The new mother will spend at least another four or five days in the hospital, which has a unit specializing in high-risk births, the spokeswoman said.

Why in the hell would a 67 year old woman take IVF treatments to get preggo?
And what kind of doctor would give them to her?

She'd better have been carrying those babies for a daughter or someone else with a botched womb. Otherwise, selfish bitch.

I think we can safely call her a selfish bitch......the kids are for herself from what I have read so far.
I just don't understand why anyone in their right minds would want to have kids at that age, not even taking into consideration the HOST of other issues that come along w/this. I mean, its crazy.

I hope she was having the babies for a relative or a friend. Why would a 67-year-old want to be a mother? She's old enough to be a grandma.

I've always had major doubts about IVF and how it can be abused like this. I think our anger should be directed towards the doctor who agreed to do it because it most definitely strays over the line of ethical behaviour IMO. Mother Nature dictates that women are no longer fertile around the age of 50 and it's for a very good reason.

They actually don't know what the evoutionary reason of menopause is...it happens in almost all mammals though.
There was one theory that it was so the now-infertile female would help raise their grand-offspring increasing their fitness - but that was debunked with studies where it was discovered that it didn't really matter if the offspring had grandparents taking care of it as well or not (I'm talking lions btw )

Well since the risk of birth defects rises significantly after 35, and stratospherically after 40 that would be a good enough evolutionary reason for a sharp drop in fertility. Add to that the fact that human infants need a fit, healthy mother to feed and protect them for a longer time than most other mammals and that's also a good enough reason to stop having babies when Mother Nature says so.

Actually you can breed superhumans or organisms by forcing them to mate later at life. The reasoning behind this is people with bad alleles which have negative later life effects (For example a gene that causes extra calcium to be deposited, as a young person it increases bone density, as an older person it increases the amount of calcium deposited in your heart) will be weeded out because they die before having the chance to reproduce.
Some guy did it with fruitflies and created a strain of fruitflies that lived twice as long and were more vigorous.

This is just sick, I envision celebutards seeing this and doing the same, not that it's stopped senior citizen male celebutards from having kids.
But really, if she's going to "raise" these kids this is pathetic, she has to change not only the kid's diapers, but her own too. Sad.
