Man jailed for stocking theft spree

A 39-year-old resident of Örebro who attacked several disabled women and stole their stockings has today been sentenced to one and a half years in prison, Aftonbladet reports.

The man was accused of several such attacks, in which he used a stocking as a mask, between the months of May and August this year.

On one occasion the man dragged a 70-year-old woman in a wheelchair into a store room and began tearing at her prosthetic leg. He finally fled when the woman threatened to activate her alarm, but not before first relieving her of her nylon knee stockings.

Police responded to many reports of a stocking thief in the Örebro area and eventually arrested the man at the beginning of September.

When police officers subsequently raided his house they found a large number of shoes and a total of 500 pairs of tights, many of which had not been removed from their packages.

The man faced charges of molestation and theft at Örebro district court. After a psychiatric investigation he was judged to be in a good state of mental health.

The man has admitted to the crimes and, in addition to his prison sentence, will pay his victims 57,000 kronor in compensation.http://www.thelocal.se/5423/20061106...951bdc4e40a353
