'Runaway Bride' bitch sues ex fiance for half a mil

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Jennifer Wilbanks, who became known as the "runaway bride" after taking off just days before her lavish wedding in 2005, is suing her former fiance for $500,000.

Wilbanks and John Mason broke up for good in May, about a year after her excursion to Las Vegas and New Mexico made international headlines while hundreds of friends and family members searched for her back home in suburban Atlanta.

Mason has until Oct. 22 to respond to the lawsuit, filed last month in Gwinnett County's Superior Court. The suit, Wilbanks vs. JCM Consulting et al, was filed Sept. 13, according to court records.

In it, Wilbanks seeks $250,000 as her share of a home Mason purchased through the partnership with proceeds from $500,000 received for selling their story to an agent, plus $250,000 in punitive damages for allegedly abusing the power of attorney she granted for him to handle their financial affairs, according to Atlanta television station WAGA, which reported on the lawsuit Monday night.

Missing for 4 days
She also seeks the return of personal property she claims he has kept.

Wilbanks disappeared four days before her April 30, 2005, wedding. Hundreds of police and volunteers searched for her for three days before she called Mason from Albuquerque, N.M., claiming to have been abducted and sexually assaulted.

She later recanted, saying she fled because of unspecified personal issues, and pleaded no contest to telling police a phony story.

She was sentenced to two years' probation and performed community service that included mowing the lawns of public buildings.

She has the googly eyes because of a thyroid imbalance, which probably led to her running away in the first place since thyroid imbalances make you a bit wacked. I just always thought it was stupid to charge her with anything in the first place. Obviously she panicked and freaked out and I can't see where that was such a crime. We are way to vengeful in this society and not very good at forgiving human frailties. And hell yeah she should get half the money if it was hers as well.

Gotta disagree with you, butt. I think the crime was having all those people working overtime trying to find her sorry ass while she's riding the bus to New Mexico or wherever the hell she went. I mean she fraudulently arranged her own disappearance. And making the people that love you think you've been kidnapped is really fucked up, even if that part isn't punishable by law.

I've known two googly-eyed/thyroid people, and only one of them was "crazy." But functionally so. He's an actor, if that helps.

I used to have a friend with the same condition and she could behave oddly at times, but since she was primarily selfish and self-absorbed, I don't think it had anything to do with her thyroid. Wilbanks has a history of jilting men -- remember, she did this once before on a smaller scale.

I've known several people with thyroid disorders (both ways: hypo/hyper) and none of them were any 'crazier' than the average everyday Joe.

This woman is just a fucking nut. And the hyperT just makes her LOOK more like it. (i.e. "crazy" eyes)

I have no idea of her history but being flakey isn't really a crime (although sometimes I think it should be). When you have Grave's Disease, which is what causes the bulging eyes, it means your hormones are all over the map and can lead to thyroid burnout as well as a thyroid storm. People with this disorder, before it's symptoms, causes, etc were widely known (thanks to Robert Graves), were often locked up in mental institutions due to thier irrational and erratic behavior.

I'd be inclined to agree with you, buttmunch, except for the fact that she took it beyond flakiness when she cooked up a whole cover story.

She had people out searching for her "kidnappers" after she called her finace and told him she'd been nabbed by a Hispanic male and a white woman. That's not flakiness to me, that's a false claim she made up to try and cover her ass.
