Talking PETArds strike again: save the cockroaches!

Quote:
GURNEE, Ill. (AP) - People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants Six Flags Great America to scrap its Halloween-themed cockroach-eating promotion.

A spokeswoman for the animal rights organization says the contest at the amusement park's FrightFest is "gratuitously cruel."

The park in Gurnee, Ill., is joining other Six Flags parks in offering unlimited line-jumping privileges to anyone who eats a live Madagascar hissing cockroach. The bugs are up to three inches long.

The contest begins next month.

Amusement park officials are defending their menu choice. Great America spokesman Jim Taylor says the bugs are nutritious, high in protein and fat free.

These twits seriously need to get a grip. I bet they lose sleep at night thinking about how many ants they might have stepped on during the course of a day.

Ok, this is pretty stupid. I actually like that PETA fights against animal testing since I flipped as a kid after seeing how hair spray was sprayed into the eyes of kittens to see if it was safe, etc. But I can't imagine defending cockroaches.

It's a bug that would have been fed to lizards or tarantulas. So, they get eaten by line jumpers and it's worthy of a PETA protest.

I've eaten Polish velveeta lasagna. No problem choking down a cockroach. Going to the front of the line!

I was watching this show (Mad Lab) on A & E where they were cooking bug meals (worms, insects ) saying how much more protein they had than meats... and ppl trying the dishes said they actually tasted good, they even had a bug desert.

Apparently alot of bugs are high in protein. But people have to remember that lobsters are, in essence, just giant bugs, just like crayfish, etc.

When I was at Purdue they had the annual 'Bug Bowl'. I ate an assortment of insects - the meal worms stir-fried in soy sauce were particularly good (and salty) mmmmm..mmmmm..good.

Where I'm from, we actually have this local delicacy of grasshopper/locust teriyaki... A friend of mine brought a jarful for lunch when I was in elementary school

I wonder how bugs affect your bowel movements. I'm guessing things might get a bit, erm, abrasive.
