Default Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris is On Fire

Notre Dame Roof Engulfed in Flames
Flames were spotted shooting from the historic Notre Dame cathedral in Paris on Monday.

Smoke was billowing from the structure and could be seen from miles away in the French capital.

The city's fire department said a major operation was underway and a city hall spokesman said on Twitter that the area was being cleared.

The house of worship, with roots dating back to 1160, is considered one of the world's greatest examples of French Gothic architecture.

There's an American tourist commentating on MSNBC and reports that there is NO WATER being used to contain this. It sounds like it's just burning.

Of course, Trump has to put his two cents in and recommends flying water tankers. I'm sure France has a lot of those.

Because of course he knows everything about fire. Mainly lighting it I'd say though.

Well, you know Trump's an engineering genius. I still remember how many times he got himself on the news during 9/11 talking about the structural damage of the WTC.

@TinyPixie ^He probably couldn't roll a piece of paper into a cone shape, much less define what a spire is.

I am seeing a story that I can't confirm (because the article is from a dodgy paper) that there has been a spate of vandalism attacks in Paris on churches. I wonder if that's true. The first story I heard was that it had something to do with work being done on the building. Did the fire start after the workday would have been over?

Those poor fire fighters. They must feel so helpless.

I'm sitting here in total disbelief. All that history gone. There was a lady on FB that took a picture of it 5 hours before the fire broke out. Pristine in all it's glory. That shit is burning hot too. I assume this is from the renovations? Or related? This is just un-real.

The fire has been burning in a bit more than an hour and there's barely anything left
    I have no words
Well at least the statues that were supposed to be renovated were removed yesterday, we'll still have those
For now, renovation works that are being done are "accused" of having caused that fire but we don't have any confirmation so far

I feel sorry for firemen who don't have hoses that can get this high, they must feel horrible.

What a loss of art and architecture.
