Alabama's New Sex Offender Law

Okay, so I do understand the need to keep people in the community informed about these asshats but things are getting a bit ridiculous. What are you gonna do? Ask everyone you suspect to whip out their drivers license?

I wish they would designate on a website which were rapist and which were pedophiles and let it go at that. All this recent stuff is Megan's Law run amok.

Alabama's New Sex Offender Law Now In Effect

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- A new state law went into effect Friday that requires all convicted adult sex offenders to have a special mark placed on their state driver's licenses or non-driver identification cards.

The mark will be visible to anyone who checks a person's identification -- from police officers to grocery store cashiers to clerks at video stores.

Any sex offender leaving prison or changing residences must get a new license that will bear the sex offender mark.

Attorney General Troy King said convicted sex offenders who already have a license or identification card must get the mark when their current card expires.

A spokeswoman for the Alabama Department of Public Safety in Montgomery said the system to mark the driver's licenses and ID cards is in place. She said at least two driver's licenses were issued Thursday bearing the new mark.

Defense attorneys said the law classifies all sex offenders as deviants, no matter the nature of the crime. The law affects those convicted of almost every type of sex crime in Alabama code, from sexual contact with minors to indecent exposure.

The Alabama Legislature passed the new Sex Offender Notification Act requiring the marked driver's licenses during a special session in July 2005.

Failure to comply is a Class C felony crime.

Fuck Pedophiles and sex offenders. I think they need to tattoo a big red X on the middle their foreheads… Or better yet keep them in jail and throw away the key.

Do you realize that in many places(like Ohio ) if you went (assuming you are a woman here)and propositioned the first guy you met on the street it would be no big deal, but If I(a guy) did the same thing I could be arrested for importuning, and would be considered a sex offender..for doing the same thing that you did with impunity?..these sex offender laws can be ridiculous and very unfair..classifying all kinds of minor things and prejudicial things together with heinous pedophile and rapist acts?

^^but these stupid laws(like the Alabama Drivers Liscence law)do not distinguish between an 18 year old who screwed his 17 year old girlfriend(with consent) and a child rapist. That is a big part of the problem..painting them all with the same dirty brush. I agree about throwing the pedophiles in a cell and throwing away the key. They cannot be changed.

that's what scares me ultimately too. I too agree we should protect our children from the bona fide sexual predators, once they brutalize women and children they gave up their right to be free from constant monitoring. But these draconian laws are too much, way too ripe for wanton abuses at a whim.
