A truck drove into a crowd celebrating Bastille Day in Nice, France, according to media reports, causing injuries and possibly deaths.

Reuters quotes the regional newspaper as saying the truck rammed into a crowd on the city's Promenade des Anglais, where a large crowd was celebrating the national holiday, and, according to French television channel BFM TV, the local government there was asking people to stay home in the wake of the incident.

The former mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, posted a tweet saying the truck appeared to have killed dozens of people.

Sickening. I don't even know what to say anymore. I'm so sad for the people of France. They've had so many attacks on them.

From what I've seen, they think at least 30 people are dead. One report said that the driver came out firing a gun, which caused more deaths.

Huge fire next to the Eiffel Tower. Can't tell what the cause is yet, but smoke is billowing over the lower half of it.

Update - police say it is just fireworks.

I wish it was like the 70's and we just had serial killers. They were a lot less dangerous.

I just don't understand people anymore. It's like the world is drunk on anger, hate, and violence and people can't see straight anymore.

73 dead according to police and hundreds (HUNDREDS) injured. This is insane. Paris and France as a whole have been in a state of emergency for so long now yet still stuff like this keeps happening. And on their national day, how's that for sending a message? The news had some horrible raw footage of the victims that they since have not aired anymore. It made the worst horror movie look like a children's program, too unreal in its level of gore.

I cried my entire hour long drive home. This is horrible, horrible, the accounts of people banging on doors begging to be let in off the streets, and the bodies piled. I'm in tears, this is horrible, beyond horrible.

If it's terrorism, I'm doubly sick knowing that no policies will change in the middle east, they'll send more drones to kill more of their innocents, rather than less. Innocents are being killed everyday, I can't believe this world

I'm personally not for sure if a change in policy will stop a lot of this now. These people are in-fucking-sane.

I'm not religious, more spiritual. I think I may have been inside a church 30 times in my 52 years. However: I seem to remember that somewhere in the Bible it says humanity will destroy itself. I think humanity stepped up a gear in doing so these past few years.
    Death toll: 75.
