NEWARK, Ohio -- A teenager who reached 110 mph while driving along a rural Licking County road will spend 21 days in juvenile detention.
The incident was caught on tape, and it was caused by what officials called hill jumping, NBC 4 reported.
On June 20, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said David Mitchell and Andrew Gleckler raced on a rural road, reaching speeds of up to 100 mph.
The teens crashed their vehicle into the home of Lynn Ashcroft. She suffered cuts and bruises,
but her dog was killed in the crash.
Mitchell, the driver, pleaded guilty to vehicular assault. He was sentenced to serve seven days in juvenile detention before school starts, and an additional seven days during his winter and spring breaks.
Mitchell is also not allowed to drive until he turns 21 years old in 2011.
Prosecutors said they wanted to send a message to children that hill jumping will not be tolerated.
