'King of the Blues' blues legend B.B. King dead at age 89

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Blues legend B.B. King has died in Las Vegas at age 89, his lawyer says.

Attorney Brent Bryson tells The Associated Press that King died peacefully in his sleep at 9:40 p.m. PDT Thursday at his home in Las Vegas.

The one-time farmhand brought new fans to the blues and influenced a generation of musicians with his heartfelt vocals and soaring guitar on songs such as "The Thrill Is Gone."

King sold millions of records worldwide and was inducted into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

King played a Gibson guitar that he affectionately called Lucille and was not only the undisputed king of the blues but a mentor to scores of guitarists including Eric Clapton.

He was awarded his 15th Grammy in 2009 in the traditional blues album category for "One Kind Favor."

    RIP BB King.

    Incredible musician.

My thoughts are with his family, friends and fans and of course the lovely Lucille Gibson

Gibson Guitar's must have been so proud that one of their creations was played so beautifully by one of the Greats.

Forget the money, fame and women.

To be admired and held in such high esteem both with audiences and fellow musicians alike must truly be heaven on earth.

R.I.P. Mr. King, and thank you contributing a lifetime of creativity, leaving so much behind for our continued enjoyment.

One of the true giants of the music industry (no matter the genre).

Sad to see him go, but he lived a long and fruitful life.

the thrill is gone for sure.

He was one of the first concerts I ever saw and is definitely one of the reasons I am the music fan I am today. Truly a legend. Rest easy, Mr. King.

It always impressed me that he just kept going and going, performing into his old age and at his size, it couldn't have been easy. His sheer love of music and playing it drove him, it was plain to see. I saw him when he was touring with U2 and even THEN, he was old as hell. But his joy on stage was a delight to see.

Aside from all the great music he brought us, he also smashed racial barriers and kept blues in the mainstream for decades. Rest in peace Mr. King.
