New Mexico mayor arrested for exposing himself to kids

POTEET, N.M. -- Poteet Mayor Lino Donato was released from the Atascosa County Jail on Wednesday after posting a $70,000 bond following his arrest Tuesday on charges of indecency with a child.
Donato, 56, refused to speak to reporters about the allegations against him that involve two under-age girls.
According to an affidavit, Donato is accused of exposing himself to two female relatives under the age of 17.
The offenses allegedly occurred in 1996, 1996 and 2000.
Sal Martell, Donato's friend, said he suspects the charges stem from Donato's bitter breakup with his wife.
"I think it has to do with his divorce," said Martell.
Donato's arrest was the talk of the small town on Wednesday.
"Everybody is in shock," said resident Roger Garza, Sr.
Donato did not return to his auto repair shop after posting bond.
He remained in seclusion Wednesday.
In his absence, the city administrator was handling day-to-day operations.
Donato's first court appearance is scheduled for August.

The lawyer thinks it has to do with the divorce? A man goes through a bad divorce and his response is to wave his willy at some underage members of the family? Um, yeah, I think not.

I know this is horrible and all..but all I could do was laugh at the name of this town.."poteet"..

...and I agree..the 'divorce' excuse is pretty much bullshit to me.

I'm assuming that the divorce comment had something to do with his ex-wife being so bitter that she put the girls up to the accusations but I like your interpretation better!

I just remembered where I heard the word 'poteet"-it was the last name of the replacement character on "Desigining Women" before the show went off the air..it was the rich one who married the rich guy named Poteet who died and she had to run Poteet Industries or whatever the company was..I KNEW I had heard that name before!
