Default Amazon Wants To Ship Products Before You Even Buy Them

This seems like the dumbest idea ever.

Book News: Amazon Wants To Ship Products Before You Even Buy Them

Amazon has patented "anticipatory package shipping," a system that ships products before customers have actually bought them based on what it predicts they will buy.

"Amazon plans to box and ship products it expects customers to buy preemptively, based on previous searches and purchases, wish lists, and how long the user's cursor hovers over an item online. The company may even go so far as to load products onto trucks and have them 'speculatively shipped to a physical address' without having a full addressee."

Sure! As long as you don't "speculatively" charge my credit card, I'm okay with it.

Meh, they'd probably get it right with me too. I spend way too much on Amazon.

If you don't send the item back, they will. And given the amount of people who would pay for an item rather than go to the trouble and fuss of returning it, what's Amazon got to lose?

So they're going to eliminate the entire checkout process too? Where I choose how to pay for it, what method I want it shipped and I verify that I'm sure I want it?

So, according to the patent, stuff is just going to be sent to a "geographical area" without having a definite shipping address. The address would not be added until a purchase is made. It just gives the package a head start and isn't the huge fearful thing it's being described as.

So if I am just window shopping on the site, and I leave my computer to take a phone call or do a load of laundry, they are going to ship me whatever my cursor was hovering on for a prolonged period of time?? WTF?? I will cancel my credit card with them if they start that bullshit!!! Unless I do the checkout process, how can they assume I want to buy a product I am just looking at???

Great - it's going to be sent to a "geographical area" - like my street corner or my front lawn? I can just go pick it up if I want?

    Works for me.

Seems like a money waster if they are wrong too often.

There's probably some algorithm that will only do this for the most predictible buyers.

I wouldn't want them to do that with my Wish List. I just use it as a place to log stuff my kids mention for Christmas ideas. I wouldn't want to buy all that shit, or end up with that bill..lol

I'm going to hover over all expensive crap I want but will never buy and then go break into the nearest Amazon warehouse. Seems a flawless plan.
