Kids too fat for their cars seats...heftier models on the way.

Researchers find that more than a quarter (m) million American children ages one to six are heavier than the weight limits for standard car seats. And most of those are three-year-olds who weigh more than 40 pounds.

Lead author Lara Trifiletti (trif-ah-LEHT'-ee) says researchers became interested in the topic when they saw children "who were very obese" and that "car-seat technicians were having a hard time finding car seats to fit them."

Using inadequate car seats could put them at increased risk for injury in an accident.

The study appears in the April edition of Pediatrics.

I noticed that ^^ esp when Maury has one of those my baby is 200lb shows, the parents are as fat as the kids themselves.

You're right...the fat kids tend to have fat parents. The whole family needs to see a good dietician and learn how to eat properly. They're killing thier kids and themselves.

Yeah - anguished 300lb mother goes on Maury with grotesque overweight toddler and whines that she can't understand why her baby is so "big boned". He/she must have some obscure medical condition, it's the only possible explanation.

I love the Maury's where they lay out the average food intake for the kid on a table. It's just so shocking and disgusting at the same time. People who openly admit to feeding their kids like that need to be brought up on charges of abuse.

And the clothing sizes are a NIGHTMARE.
I have a tiny toddler, I mean medical intervention tiny ( she may be lacking HGH...but that is another story)
But I can't help but look at these size 2T's ( She is three now...right on track..lol) and they are ENORMOUS. Even compared to her older sister's clothes ( who is 10, 5'2...perfect weight...but damn...One extreme to another huh?) The 2Ts are sooo much bigger!

What's really wild on those Maury shows is when the moms say it's cruel and abusive to deprive their children of a macaroni and cheese/fried chicken breakfast. So what if they cry if they don't get a chocolate milkshake with every meal? They're killing them with food and I'm wondering if it won't be commonplace in a few years for kids in their 20s to be having heart attacks and quadruple bypasses.

Sounds like the parents are justifying what they eat, not their kids. Let's face it, a kid will eat what's put before it, if it has no other choice. When I was growing up, pop and milkshakes were treats, not staples. As were other unhealthy foods. And my parents were far from health nuts; they just knew that they set the example and made the rules, not the other way around.

Dr Phil (groan) had one of these overweight mom/enablers on his show and she followed the usual script of blaming everyone, including a huge doctors conspiracy, for her morbidly obese child. They filmed a normal day for this child and yes, it was mac cheese and chocolate shake for brekky - fries and pizza for lunch - more fries and fried chicken for dinner ALL washed down with large amounts of Coke, plus endless snacks "lovingly" prepared by mommy. She truly could not see where the problem was and when Dr Phil gently hinted that the problem might be HER she got all pissy and defensive and trotted out the same old "but I love my child and will do anything for him". Dr Phil tried to explain the most basic rules of healthy nutrition and QUANTITY CONTROL but she sat there like a stunned mullet with obviously NO fucking clue what he was talking about.

I know we've had the discussion before about junk food being the only option some people can afford, but it's bullshit. A bowl of pasta with tomato sauce (home made, eeeeek, you might have to get off your fat ass), or a fresh apple costs less per portion than a Big Mac.

WTF? Who can make that statement with a straight face.

You're right AO, that makes no sense! $3 can buy a lot of real food. And if you are buying the Mcdeal, you are spending $6 easy, I can cook a real meal for 3 for $10.00 and dessert too.

The real problem lies in that nobody wants to cook anymore, and they toss the kids in front of the TV with a bag of cheetos instead of making them play outside. Or better yet, take them for a bike ride, to the park, ice-skating whatever. TV, video games and fast foods will be the destruction of humanity, not nukes.
