Oakland 2nd Graders Reportedly Engage In Sex Acts, Teacher Suspended

OAKLAND (CBS 5) — A teacher at Oakland’s Markham Elementary School has been suspended indefinitely after school officials said a pair of second-graders performed sex acts on each other in class – with the teacher present.

“I think everyone is taken aback over this shocking incident,” Troy Flint, the spokesman for the Oakland Unified School District, told CBS 5. “Of course, it is hard to understand how that could have occurred.”

Flint said the sex acts incident was one of two separate cases under investigation involving the teacher; both incidents occurred last week in the same classroom but he said they didn’t come to the attention of school officials until Wednesday.

In one case, several students apparently took off their clothes and were naked in the classroom. In the second incident, a boy and girl reportedly engaged in oral sex in front of their classmates.

Flint indicated that the suspended teacher, whose name was not released by the school district, was present for both of the incidents.
Flint and Markham principal Pam Booker said they were limited in terms of the details they could release at this time because of the ongoing investigation into the matter.

Booker noted that the students said to be involved in the incidents were interviewed by school leaders.

In a letter sent to parents of Markham students on Thursday, Booker offered an apology by telling them that the incidents “represent an unacceptable lack of supervision. I understand there is great anger over this news.”

I was 7 kids are 7/8 in 2nd grade. This person is obviously not sane who does that and thinks no one will find out? But of course finding kids naked fun or encouraging child sex acts is not sane.

i read it as the unsupervised, out of control kids getting in to trouble rather than a pervy teacher. i have a friend who had a student in middle school that would masturbate during class. wasn't her fault and she absolutely didn't encourage it.

Yes that's how I read it too. Other articles have made it a lot more clear that he is being punished for failing to notice the acts (hence the 'lack of supervision').

My cousin is an elementary school principal and she regularly has to confiscate porno mags from her 2-3 grade students and has found them behaving "inappropriately" with each other on several occasions. Needless to say the parents are feral too. It's scary how over-sexualised these young kids are and you have to wonder what goes on at home to make them think it's OK to behave like this in school.

Very true. I would think it's not always the parents though maybe parents aren't doing their jobs seeing what their kids are surfing on the web or watching on t.v.

There's plenty of outside influences including your peers, etc., just too much easy access to things like that these days technologically.

I'm sorry, I'm going with the pervy teacher theory here. I know there are kids who masturbate in class, I've known several personally, and they all have mental health issues. But several naked kids in a classroom, and oral sex going on between students in a classroom? That's a huge jump from one kid doing something or a few kids smuggling magazines. Maybe I'm wrong, but damn, unsupervised 8 year olds leading up to orgy behavior doesn't sound plausible to me. Well, unless the teacher was out of the room, and there was a kid with a really strong personality who was highly sexualized and acted as ringleader.

I realized that after I posted. If he wasn't involved, he's sure got some 'splainin' to do about what he was doing. Was he asleep? Just doing something else and ignoring them? Seems like it would be difficult to miss several naked kids in a classroom, especially since you know the other kids would be making some kind of noise about it.

Lord, all kids have an interest in sex. They see it on tv, they know something goes on in Mommy and Daddy's room ... when my son was 3 or 4, I had a niece come to spend the night and my nephew. My niece and nephew were 5 and my son came out of the room just giggling and laughing... "they told me to kiss ????'s peepee and I DID!". I nearly had an aneurysm. But rather than fuck the kids up for life for experimenting, I called the mothers of the other two and had them meet at my house pronto. The mother of the niece was the WORST! Complete denial that her little princess would do that. My snowflake must be lying - forget the other nephew admitting it too.
