Dear Felon: Sorry you’re in the can, man!

Thanks to the pioneering efforts of Brenda Guiden, America will never again be faced with the distressing dilemma of not finding that perfect “Hallmark” moment for their loved ones … who happen to be spending the holidays in the Big House.

After failing to find a card with a message that really hit home for her brothers in prison, Guiden started her own greeting card company, Prison Expressions, specializing in little somethings for prisoners and their friends and family.

Guiden, who has “two brothers, a nephew, an ex-brother-in-law and a friend” in the clink, says sales are … uh … boosted mostly by word of mouth and fliers she distributes.

For the jailbird in your life with a sense of humor, Prison Expressions offers greetings to tickle even the most hardened of funny bones, such as “Where’s the money?”

Other cards offer messages on the serious side: "You know the choice you made when you were out. You know that it did not only hurt you, but it hurt us too. However, we still love you. Love always, Family."

And what if it's your mom in prison? Fear not.

Prison Expressions’ business manager, Leo Johnson, says they are working on new designs right now and hope to have them ready to go by Mother’s Day.

Nice family. Sorry if I sound prissy but I don't know ANYONE in jail, and know a couple of blokes who did time for 'white collar' offences, eg, corporate fraud (one of them was a lawyer LOL)

I don't know anyone is jail either. I did know someone once who spent a week or something for some petty crime, but that was back in the dark ages when I thought it was cool and interesting to hang out with slightly shady people.

Good God..the only person among my group of friends and relatives I have ever known to be in jail was..er...ME! ..only for a little while, but still I think someone would prefer something else rather than a card...hmmm..like maybe....CASH or CIGARETTES to have at hand to guarantee some safety and security maybe?

You'd be surprised, I'm betting if you thought hard enough you might find you do know someone in jail. I'm writing an ex coworker in prison now. He and I worked at a large computer company years ago and he moved on to another one only to pull a funny accounting thing and ended up getting ten years for a white collar crime. An educated white guy in a sea of violent crackheads of all colors. It ain't a pretty thing. But I'd never send the jailbird a jailbird greeting card.
