Default Woman escapes after being kidnapped for 9 yrs and buys house she was kept in

Somewhere lost in the story of the Austrian who imprisoned his own daughter and the kidnapping here in the States of Jaycee Duggard I never heard the story of another Austrian girl who was kidnapped at the age of ten and finally escaped at 19. Last night a documentary aired about her imprisonment. It is called Natascha Kampusch: 3,096 Days Imprisonment. Her kidnapper killed himself the day after she escaped but Natascha says she has forgiven him or else she would not be able to move forward with her life. Now 21, she does admit to carrying his photo in her purse so she can see him everyday. The saddest part of this ordeal is that she apparently used some of the money she has received from telling her story to buy the house where she was imprisoned. She lives there. I can't imagine why anyone would want to live there but she says it is where she spent her formative years so it is important to her. She did say she would fill in the cellar where she was kept if she ever decides to sell the house.

Yeah the story sort of went under the radar when the Fritzl thing came out, but also because the victim sold her story immediately in the hope of a media career!
There have been allegations that her mother knew the captor etc, a lot is really weird about that story.

There's a book based on this story, "The Girl in the Cellar". This guy totally fucked with her head. She was a young girl and he certainly sexually abused her.

Under the radar? The media shoved Kampusch down my throat daily for a good year. That was ages before the Fritzl case.

Isn't her captor the one who jumped in front of a train?

I didn't hear about it, either. Maybe it wasn't a big story in the States?

It's a sad story. Missing her captor and wanting to re-capture that some how by carrying his picture and living in his house means she needs to invest in some heavy duty therapy. She should start by selling that house of horrors to pay for it.

I don't know what's worse, this story, or the semi naked pictures of Donatella Versace I just saw when I clicked a link in that blog.

If this is the same lady I'm thinking about, I think she was referenced in another thread here on GR. It was about children abducted at an early age, enslaved, and whether it was a good idea to have the media all over them afterwards. I think she was all over the media but afterwards things caught up with her, and it seems like she is still quite messed up in the head. Carries a picture of him?

    Yeesh.

I would have done the same thing, only I would have had the house fire bombed.

I guess the story wasn't very big in the States? It was very big news here. I was surprised that Natascha was willing to appear on TV and all that. She probably needs a ton of therapy. Sure, she has every reason to hate the guy but he was her sole caretaker from age 10 to 19. He shaped her whole world. That would mess up anybody.

    Yes.

I saw plenty about it on CNN's website, I'm pretty sure. I remember her saying how bad she felt for his mother that he killed himself. I knew she was planning to buy the house but it is still shocking to me that she carries his picture around. Poor girl.
