California Woman, 62, Gives Birth to Baby Boy

Janise Wulf gave birth to her 12th child. She is also a grandmother of 20 and a great-grandmother of three.

Family members said the delivery went smoothly, despite earlier concerns about the mother's health. Wulf, a diabetic, experienced swelling and higher blood pressure earlier this week, prompting doctors to perform the Caesarean section a week early.

Wulf and her third husband, Scott, 48, named the red-haired boy Adam Charles Wulf. He follows just 3 1/2 years behind his older brother, Ian.

"I hate to raise one alone, without a sibling," said Wulf, who was impregnated both times through in vitro fertilization.

The oldest woman on record to give birth is a 66-year-old Adriana Iliescu of Romania, who had a Caesarean section Jan. 15, 2005.

The Guinness Book of World Records also lists two 63-year-old women who have given birth: Rosanna Della Corte of Italy in 1994 and Acheli Keh of California in 1996. News reports, however, list Della Corte's age at 62 when she gave birth.

Am I wrong in thinking that IVF should be used for couples who really struggle to get pregnant and have no children whatsover rather than a family that has a football team and 1 sub?

I think her other kids must be grown... I think she means the 3 1/2 year old didn't have a young sibling to play with, so she had another one. Oy.

I hope she has(and had) the money for all the kids. With all the grandkids, why would her other child need someone to play with? Surely one of those is close to the same age.

Did anyone see this odd little family on Good Morning America on Sunday? They were scary. What is the reason someone who already has a bunch of kids feels the need to have one more? And by in-vitro? Actually, the mother and the husband looked a little "special" to me, especially the husband. Does anyone else see this as very selfish in regard to the baby? How long is its mother going to live?

it's awfully selfish. if she's lucky she'll live to be 80 and her kid will be 18. not everyone even lives that long. bleh. so weird. my mom had us when she was 35 and 37 and she said if she had it to do ever again she would have had us way sooner bc she got so tired out from running around after us.
