NBC: 7 dead, 12 injured in Fort Hood shootingÂ* - Crime & courts- msnbc.com

At least seven people are dead and 12 wounded in a shooting at Fort Hood in Texas, the base's public affairs office told NBC News on Thursday.
The official would not give his name nor additional details. It was unknown whether victims are soldiers or civilians. One gunman was reportedly in custody and another was on the loose, NBC News said.
NBC affiliate KCEN in Waco reported that the second suspect may be holed up in a building on the post.

The base was reportedly on lockdown. Two nearby school districts were also being locked down.
Fort Hood is adjacent to Killeen, and 60 miles northeast of Austin. The sprawling complex is home to at least 4,929 active duty officers and 45,414 enlisted. Civilian employees total nearly 9,000.

We were stationed there, Mr. Armywifey deployed from there to Iraq in 2003...My prayers go out to everyone there, so sad.

OMG! My dad was stationed there and we lived in Killeen back in the 70s. This is horrible.

Local news now saying Sen Kay Baily Hutcheson says 30 wounded. Still on lock down. Sounds terroist-y. Really bad. My Dad used to command a tank batallion there. One frioend of mine usually works on Post,she was out ill. 2 locations reporting gun fire.

Local TV station KXXV reports:

We've learned an incident has taken place at the sports dome, now known as the soldier readiness area.... Temple ISD Schools Have Been locked down as part of this incident. The district's spokeswoman tells News Channel 25 the district is on soft lockdown.

According to reports, the suspects were in military uniform. More details from MSNBC:

The Fort Hood military base is huge -- home to 4,929 active duty officers, 45,414 enlisted and nearly 9,000 civilian employees. The early word from MSNBC is that this is all military, and no civilians were involved. But that has not been confirmed.

An Army spokesman at the Pentagon says the shootings began about 1:30 p.m. Thursday at a personnel and medical processing center at Fort Hood....

Banks says the second incident took place at a theater on the sprawling base.

He says it is too soon to tell whether there is any link to battle stress or repeated deployments. The Army is suffering a record high suicide rate and other signs of stress from fighting two wars.

I'd just go ahead and shoot the so called "suspect". I'm surprised he didn't kill himself.

On another blog there are some ppl from the local area in Texas. Here's what they've confirmed:
- It was at a military processing center. Two areas were hit. One is where the soliders going to/coming back from war. The other is where people go to sign up and get tested for being in the army.
- The PX is being surrounded. (thats the military shopping center & grocery store)
- The weapons used were M-16s

Unconfirmed reports of shots fired at a soldier's residence now. No confirmation whether it is on or off-post.

They have 2,now one station is reported another shooter is still loose. Unclear if accurate yet.

This makes me think of that Homeland Security report that warned about troops being recruited by militia groups. Not saying that this incident is definitely related, but it wouldn't shock me.

It kind of reminds me of the plot (that was broken up) of some muslim (Albanian) guys who wanted to put on uniforms and shoot up Ft. Dix (New Jersey).

Wait, I think they were going to dress as pizza guys or did reconnaissance as pizza guys.
