Some of you cat ladies might be in trouble - having more than 3 requires a permit
Having more than 3 cats now requires a license
DUDLEY — Voters last night added language to a town bylaw that will make it illegal to own more than three cats without a kennel license, though Selectman Steven Sullivan said housing three felines was already a violation.
The article came after a neighborhood feud over cats owned by Mary Ellen Richards of Kennedy Drive.
Some of Mrs. Richards’ 15 cats are allowed outside, and one neighbor said the cats have ruined his yard.
The discussion at town meeting last night had Mrs. Richards warning residents that the $100 per day fines being imposed on her could also be imposed on them if they fail to get kennel licenses for their pets.
She has put her home up for sale and plans to move to a “more cat-friendly community,” but vowed to fight the fines.

Glad this hasn't been enacted where I live. I have six cats, and have no intention of getting a "permit" for them.

I have five, all indoor cats as well. As for wrecking gardens... well, around here the local kids do a fine job of that without the need for anyones pets joining in. Can we get permits for chavs to breed instead?

I've always been told there is a "16 paw law" here in California. No more than 4 domestic animals without a kennel license.

This makes perfect sense to me. I know you all are kitty lovers, but I think they are dirty and smelly.

How would they know how many you had if you kept them inside?
None of their beeswax how many kitty cats I have. It's not like they are mountain lions for shits sakes.

None of my cats are dirty or smelly. Cats are actually one of the cleanest pets to have if you take care of them properly. Now,dogs on the other hand are dirty and smelly. Nothing like the smell of wet dog to make you retch up your lunch. Yuck.

i have 2 plus 3 kittens from a feral cat that dropped and ran. They best not try to enforce that here.

Oh hell, yeah! I love dogs too, but wet dog smell gets me every time. I'd love to have a dog as well, but it literally makes me retch and it woudn't be fair on it to live with someone who couldn't handle the downsides as well as the up.

We have cats AND dogs, and dogs are by far dirtier and smellier, hands down. But I love them anyway. As for the bylaw, I can understand people's resentment of neighbors who let their animals roam at will, whether it's cats or dogs. Ours are only out when we are there to supervise them.
