A team of divers searched a North Dakota lake today for three missing Dickinson State University
students, but found no sign of them.
Dickinson State softball teammates made cell phone calls pleading for help.
"We're going every direction that we can," Dickinson Police Lt. Rod Banyai told ABCNews.com today.
A second lake was also being searched today just north of the Patterson Lake area where the girls were believed to have been stargazing
before they disappeared Sunday.
"Anything is possible," Banyai said. "We're not ruling out foul play. We're not ruling out that they just ran away."
Authorities have made little progress in their search for Kyrstin Gemar, Ashley Neufeld and Afton Williamson, all members of the Dickinson softball team.
Police said one of the women placed two phone calls to a friend shortly before midnight, asking for help.
Authorities have said the women said something about water, and the friend reported hearing "hysterical noises" before the line went dead. The friend then
called 911.
Gemar's father, Lenny Gemar, told "Good Morning America" today that he has been told police do not suspect
foul play.
From the call for help, he said, "it comes across as sounding more like an accident of some kind."
Dickinson Police Lt. Dave Wallace told The Associated Press that the calls came in less than one minute apart. But he did not say which of the women called or what exact words were used.
"Some place in that conversation, water was mentioned," Wallace said. "What that context is, is speculation."
Banyai said the National Guard was bringing in helicopters to aid in search efforts while a grid search will continue on the ground.
The girls' bank accounts have not been used since their disappearance, he said, and a search of their MySpace pages turned up little more than pictures.
