Default McFarthest point in the US from a McDonald's

America's "McFarthest Spot" - where you are the longest distance possible from a McDonald's restaurant - has been identified.

A map by artist and technologist Stephen Von Worley, who mapped the 13,000 McDonald's in the lower 48 states Photo: Weather Sealed

It lies between the two tiny hamlets of Meadow and Glad Valley in South Dakota, from where it is at least two hours drive to the nearest Golden Arches.
The calculation was done by artist and technologist Stephen Von Worley, who mapped the 13,000 McDonald's in the lower 48 states. Alaska and Hawaii were excluded.
From the "McFarthest Spot" the distance to the nearest McDonald's is 107 miles as the crow flies and 145 miles by car.
The results mean that a hungry motorist is always within a full tank of petrol of a McDonald's restaurant anywhere in the continental United States.
Mr Von Worley, 39, plotted the positions of the restaurants on a map on his blog weathersealed.com . Each restaurant is marked with a glowing spot of light and together they show virtually the entire country lit up.
He said: "As expected, McDonald's cluster at the population centres and hug the highway grid. East of the Mississippi, there's wall-to-wall coverage, except for a handful of meagre gaps centred on the Adirondacks, inland Maine, the Everglades, and outlying West Virginia."

McDonald's is too far a drive for me. But technically, there is one in Miami Beach not far away, as far as mileage. But it's not convenient to get to. Not compared to a thousand other places much closer with fresh, healthy food (that offers takeout and many times delivery as well). It's also tucked away into a shopping center area amongst other shops and unless you were lucky enough to get a metered spot on the street close by, you'd have to park a few blocks away and hoof it there and back to get your Big Mac.

My little redneck suburb (or Memphis) in NW Mississippi...it was right down the road and an easy stop that I had to pass daily. You could literally see it once you turned out of my neighborhood and were good and onto the main road. And the drive-thru was always PACKED.

After seeing that map no one should wonder why obesity is such a problem in the U.S.

But with that said, there's a Mickey-D's about five minutes from my house and I could use a couple of quarter-pounders and some fries.

I think that should be clarified as lower 48 as I know there are very few McDonalds in Alaska.

My uncle used to live in Bethel AK. I looked it up and he was over 500 miles away form the closest McDonalds. I'm betting Nome is even further.

There are two decently distanced McDonald's for me to choose from. One is about 5 minutes away and the other is about 10. :/ Damn youse McDonald's!
