Default Domestic violence ad changes when someone is looking at it

How would you feel if an advertisement was doing something while you weren't watching it? That's just what a new type of ad does in Germany. The new ad at a bus stop in Hamburg Germany changes - whether or not someone's looking at it. This particular ad shows a happy couple smiling and acting normal with the phrase "It happens when nobody is watching", talking about domestic violence. When you aren't looking at the ad, the man in the ad looks as if he is beating the woman.

How does the ad know when someone is looking at it? With a built-in camera that features eye-tracking technology. Using this, it can detect when eyes are on it and change.

For a more direct effect of the advertising, when you first walk up to the ad you will see the man beating his wife and then after a small programmed delay it will change back to the man and woman happy again.

Creepy...

But yet a strong message.

I think it's great advertising. It should win some top awards so that advertising will stop being 90% crap.

I agree. Sends a powerful message and stands out from all the other, cliched ads along these lines... which is very effective in grabbing people's attention and actually making them take notice.

^^Thank god someone else gets it. What's your take on Oz advertising? I've been kind of shocked at how 1970's a lot of it is.

Wow, the things they can do nowadays!

The fact that the ad made the news shows that the effort was worse it.

Worth it, right? And yeah, it's having an impact, which is the point. It'll win at Cannes next year, guaranteed.

For the technical innovation alone, it should!

^^Hmmm...I don't think I've ever seen an Amnesty ad in anything other than English but can't be sure. I'll check with some foreign-types and see what they say.

I know I would freak the fuck out if I saw that at a bus stop. That is a powerful ad though.

I also agree. Something that makes you stop and think. Powerful, indeed.

I'm surprised this hasn't been thought up first by some stupid advertiser, like couture lines and the like.

It was thought up by some stupid advertiser. Amnesty uses ad agencies just like clothing companies, car companies and everyone else.
