US teenager holds up cafe with banana - then eats it

A North Carolina teenager attempted to rob an internet cafe with a banana.


John Szwalla, 17, held the fruit under his jacket and threatened to kill the clerk at the Winston-Salem shop unless he was given money and a Mountain Dew soda.
However, Bobby Ray Mabe, the cafe's owner, and a customer wrestled the would-be robber to the ground, holding him until police arrived.
While they waited, the boy ate the banana.
Deputies joked about charging Mr Szwalla with destroying evidence. But Mr Mabe offered up the banana peel, which the officers photographed as evidence.
Mr Szwalla faces a charge of attempted armed robbery.
