Professor Tied to Shootings Found Dead

    By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
    Published: May 9, 2009

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — A professor suspected of killing his wife and two other people at a community theater two weeks ago has been found dead in the north Georgia woods, the police said.

Two guns were found with the body of the suspect, George M. Zinkhan, 57, a marketing professor at the University of Georgia who vanished after the April 25 shootings, the police said, . The cause of death was not given.

Cadaver dogs found the body about 10 miles west of Athens in Bogart, where Mr. Zinkhan lived. Searchers had been scouring the woods since his Jeep was found wrecked a week ago in a ravine about a mile away.

Reached at her home in Baltimore, Mr. Zinkhan’s mother, Mary, said she was aware of the discovery. “I’ve heard that news,” she said. “I have nothing to say about it.”

Mr. Zinkhan had been missing since the killings of his wife, Marie Bruce, 47; Tom Tanner, 40; and Ben Tague, 63.

The victims were preparing for an evening performance when Mr. Zinkhan got into an argument with his wife outside the theater. He returned with the guns and started shooting, the police said.

    Wish he'd killed himself first.

He dug himself a shallow grave and committed suicide.

I can't help but wonder what the autopsy will reveal. It seems to me like this might be the result of a brain ailment of some kind.

    From CNN:
The body was found "beneath the earth," Lumpkin said, without any clothes.
"A person who's not accustomed to the woods would never have found the body," he said.
Significant "efforts" were undertaken to conceal the body's location, Jim Fullington of the GBI said.
How exactly was he able to conceal his body post gunshot to the head? CNN makes it sound like he really buried himself after the fact...

Yeah I'm not convinced the guy didn't kill someone else and is trying to make it look like it was him so he could get out of the country.

No wonder they couldn't find him.
