The young mother was given special treatment however. She was not admitted to the regular maternity ward lest this raise too many curious questions. She was given a bed in the children's ward.
Ahem. I think it would raise MORE questions in the children's ward wouldn't it? After all, all the adults on the maternity ward would already be pretty aware of what was going on already. I think the kids would be asking PLENTY curious questions!

Damn, that's crazy.
I am sure this girl won't lose much of her childhood though, I bet her mother does raise it as her own and this child thinks the real mother is her sister. I have heard of that happening several times.

I'll admit I did get my period at 10. I didn't know why the hell I was bleeding and it really frightened me. My mum hadn't sat my down and had that little talk with me yet. Still, at 10 years old, I was busy jumping rope not jumping boys.

As a mother, I just cannot imagine my little baby having a little baby at that age. Luckily, she is now a teenager who doesn't yet like boys and thinks babies are gross. She also knows all about the birds and the bees, so I have hope that nothing like that happens until she's an adult and she's ready for it.

looks like her mom will raise the baby and she can get back to the 4th or 5th grade.

I'm really trying to pictures this conversation: "So, now that we've blown out the candles ... that reminds me of a little talk we need to have" ... ???

Just think, if history repeats itself, this girl could be a grandma at 20!!

It apparently worked..lol. Was a virgin until I was 17, and didn't have my first baby until I was 28.

I remember there was an actress, maybe a soap star who was popular in the 80's, that had a baby when she was 13. Her daughter returned the favor by having a baby in her teens, although not 13. So she was a grandmother in early 30's. I can't remember who it was but I know it wasn't a story on the soaps.

This is crazy. When I was about 9 the teachers separated the boys and girls and decided to have an embarassing (sp?) puberty & sex talk. I wondered if other schools do that as well, but this answered my question.

Yesterday the medical weekly De Huisarts reported that 57 Belgian 10-year-olds had been prescribed a birth control pill last year. Some for medical reasons, but others for actual birth control.
This is the most disturbing thing I've read in quite a while.
