Listening to meshuggah now. Amazingly technical, serious jazz influences. The style is called "math metal" or "mathcore". Not totally sure why but I do like others I've heard in the same style.

And not finding a song I like is soooo awful. Track ID is really not a bad idea! As long as you have a hold of the track, that is. I downloaded everything by Frank Zappa and everything by Captain Beefheart looking for that song. Of course, I fell in love with both of them but I couldn't find the song Didn't help that I couldn't remember the name of the uncle, lol.

You really should come to last.fm if you don't have a profile there. I've discovered some great music through it.

hmmm, the name deerhunter sound familiar, I'm sure I've heard some of their stuff before but youtube is being a bitch to me right now and won't play anything.
i've heard of them but i just never got round to really listening to any of their music. i guess i'm a little too picky when it comes to punk - i love x, the clash, iggy, buzzcocks, the ramones, etc... but i don't like the ones that are too metal-ish (like jello biafra - usually way too much guitar for me)

re: deerhunter, a lot of people confuse them with deerhoof. i like both but deerhunter more though you have to be in the mood. i love the album 'cryptograms' though.

i am on last.fm. and i have the little facebook last.fm application and your profile shows up on it. so i know what you're listening to
maybe we just haven't officially friended ourselves on there or something.

i think i'm going to listen to some dead kennedys on last.fm

right now listening to this compilation:

it's mostly soundtrack music from the 60s and 70s. very cool mix of space funk, sci-fi, psychedelic. very chill.

    eta: hey, we're both stooges.

actually your profile shows up in the application in my profile. along with my other last.fm friends, so you don't even have to navigate to stalk. nifty.

Love the DK's.....California Uber Alles, Too Drunk to Fuck, Kill The Poor, Holiday In Cambodia... I laugh just thinking about them

Jello Biafra did spoken word tours ages before Henry Rollins. He's brilliant.

I don't know if this is what you are looking for, but for an Uncle connected to Zappa and Beefheart there is Uncle Meat. It was the name of an album by the Mothers of Invention and it's heavily jazz influenced. Zappa's Halloween concerts in NY were a staple of my childhood, I think I was 7 at the first one my dad took me to.

    YouTube - Adam Ant "Strip"

A blast from the past that came out of nowhere, I'd forgotten about this.

    more fun:
YouTube - Adam & The Ants - Stand and Deliver
YouTube - Adam & The Ants - Kings of the Wild Frontier

    pure pop silliness.
