Default Henry Purcell - "Dido & Aeneas"

Never a fan of opera, 'till I heard this! My intro to the piece was the very famous modern dance piece by the Mark Morris company, and based on the work.

I was so overwhelmed about it that I cried yesterday. I rediscovered a song I had first heard on the radio very late at night when I was 17 or so. I remember it had been so different from everything I knew and I was praying that the station would say who was singing it and that they would not cut it short because it was so cool. For years and years I searched for it, the lyrics anything about it and finally I searched the right combination of words and found it, 15 years later!

Here it is, it's from a solo album from the Dead Kennedys' bassist, Klaus Flouride:

that's a cool song. to be honest, i'm not really familiar with the dead kennedys or any of their members' side projects, but this kind of makes me want to check them out.
i hate it when i hear something i love and then never find out what it is. it's part of the reason why i chose a phone with this on it. it's my new favourite music geek gadget.

    today's song crush:
    deerhunter - 'agoraphobia'

^ You're not familiar with the Dead Kennedys!!!??? You must remedy this at once! Their stuff doesn't sound like this song, it's pretty standard punk. Kinda sound like the Ramones but with a lot more meaningful lyrics. They're awesome, plain and simple.

Listening to meshuggah now. Amazingly technical, serious jazz influences. The style is called "math metal" or "mathcore". Not totally sure why but I do like others I've heard in the same style.

And not finding a song I like is soooo awful. Track ID is really not a bad idea! As long as you have a hold of the track, that is. I downloaded everything by Frank Zappa and everything by Captain Beefheart looking for that song. Of course, I fell in love with both of them but I couldn't find the song Didn't help that I couldn't remember the name of the uncle, lol.

You really should come to last.fm if you don't have a profile there. I've discovered some great music through it.

hmmm, the name deerhunter sound familiar, I'm sure I've heard some of their stuff before but youtube is being a bitch to me right now and won't play anything.
