    The Trapeze Swinger Lyrics

    Please, remember me, happily,
    by the rosebush laughing
with bruises on my chin, the time when
we counted every black car passing
your house beneath the hill, and up until
someone caught us in the kitchen
with maps, a mountain range, a piggy bank
a vision too removed to mention

    But please remember me, fondly,
i heard from someone you're still pretty
and then they went on to say that the Pearly Gates
    have such eloquent graffiti
like: “we'll meet again” and “fuck the Man”
and “tell my mother not to worry”
and angels with their great handshakes
but always done in such a hurry

and please remember me, at Halloween
making fools of all the neighbors
our faces painted white, by midnight
    we'd forgotten one another
and when the morning came I was ashamed
only now it seems so silly
that season left the world and then returned
and now you're lit up by the city

    so please remember me, mistakenly
in the window of the tallest tower
call, then pass us by, but much too high
to see the empty road at happy hour
gleam and resonate just like the gates
    around the Holy Kingdom
with words like: “lost and found” and “don't look down”
    and “someone save temptation”

and please remember me, as in the dream
    we had as rug-burned babies
among the fallen trees and fast asleep
beside the lions and the ladies
that called you what you like and even might
give a gift for your behavior:
a fleeting chance to see a trapeze-
    swinger high as any savior

and please remember me, my misery
and how it lost me all i wanted
those dogs that love the rain, and chasin' trains
the colored birds above there runnin'
in circles round the well, and where it spells
on the wall behind St. Peter
so bright on cinder gray in spray paint:
“who the hell can see forever?”

    and please remember me, seldomly
in the car behind the carnival
my hand between your knees, you turn from me
and said the trapeze act was wonderful
but never meant to last, the clowns that passed
saw me just come up with anger
when it filled with circus dogs, the parking lot
    had an element of danger

    so please remember me, finally
    and all my uphill clawing
my dear, but if i make the Pearly Gates
i’ll do my best to make a drawing
of God and Lucifer, a boy and girl
an angel kissin’ on a sinner
a monkey and a man, a marching band
    all around the frightened trapeze-swinger

Into the sunrise. The sunset is sad to me….it only means the night is coming.

    How about:

You're Gonna Burn in Hell by Twisted Sister.
    The End by The Doors.
Hot Fun in the Summer Time by Sly and the Family Stone.
I am a Rock by Simon and Garfunkle.
Darkside of the Moon by Pink Floyd just because.
    Wasted Sunsets by Deep Purple.
Back on Earth by Ozzy Osbourne.

I want the video "Dust in the Wind" by Kansas played at my funeral. Who would have thought Jesus could play the violin

YouTube - Kansas- Dust in th wind

Or how about some country? Like "She Stepped on My Heart and Stomped that Sucker Flat" ?

I love that song! When ever I hear it I think about the end of the movie Cruel Intentions when Reese's character is driving with the top down while everyone finds out what a fake Sarah's character is.

    Everyone has really great choices.

I think I would play Uptight by Stevie Wonder that song always picks me up when I'm sad.

Same. I always picture SMG's face when she realises she has been caught in all her lies!

For me, both "The Prayer" or "Bridge Over Trouble Water" by Anthony Callea.

I don't necessarily think these are songs for funerals particularly, but Luther Vandross's "Dance with my Father" puts a lump in my throat. As does Lorrie Morgan's "A Picture of Me without You" and "If You Came Back from Heaven" and Elvis' "If I Can Dream". Oh - and Sarah McLaughlin's "Arms on the Angel" and "I Will Remember You".

Tori Amos' rendition of Tom Waits' "Time." I still get choked up when I remember her playing it on Letterman when he came back after 9/11

Well, the smart money's on Harlow
And the moon is in the street
The shadow boys are breaking all the laws
And you're east of East St. Louis
And the wind is making speeches
And the rain sounds like a round of applause
Napoleon is weeping in the Carnival saloon
His invisible fiance is in the mirror
    The band is going home
It's raining hammers, it's raining nails
Yes, it's true, there's nothing left for him down here

    [Chorus:]
    And it's Time Time Time
    And it's Time Time Time
    And it's Time Time Time
    That you love
    And it's Time Time Time
And they all pretend they're Orphans
And their memory's like a train
You can see it getting smaller as it pulls away
And the things you can't remember
Tell the things you can't forget that
History puts a saint in every dream
Well she said she'd stick around
    Until the bandages came off
But these mamas boys just don't know when to quit
And Matilda asks the sailors are those dreams
    Or are those prayers
So just close your eyes, son
And this won't hurt a bit

Well, things are pretty lousy for a calendar girl
The boys just dive right off the cars
    And splash into the streets
And when she's on a roll she pulls a razor
From her boot and a thousand
    Pigeons fall around her feet
So put a candle in the window
And a kiss upon his lips
Till the dish outside the window fills with rain
Just like a stranger with the weeds in your heart
And pay the fiddler off till I come back again
