I'll second the Mad World song....
and Tonight and the Rest of my Life (not sure if thats the actual title...) by nina gordon...its more of a different type of sad song however.

    I have a couple

    Kelly Clarkson, "Because Of you"
    Evanesnece, "Going under"
Bonnie Raitt, "I can't make you love me"
    Nickleback, "Photograph"

And the saddest most beautiful song I have ever heard is Clay Aiken's
    "Lover All Alone"

For some reason, quite a few Cyndi Lauper songs make me sad. Maybe it's their melodies, not really the lyrics.

e.g. True Colours, Time After Time, All Through the Night

    Nickleback, "Photograph"
I find this song funny...because of the part that goes "What the hell is on Joey's head?"

    Look at this photograph
Everytime I do it makes me laugh
How did our eyes get so red
And what the hell is on Joey's head
I'm guessing it's some kinda reference to smoking pot?

If you think it's crazy, you ain't seen a thing. Just wait until we're goin down in flames.

I like a lot of sad music -- it is much harder to write a sad song that captures people's attention than a happy one.
I like alot of sad music too..maybe I just like to torture myself.
Fortunately I like the lively fun disco-ey dance trash too so I can listen to the sad stuff and get down...and then listen to the fun, happy, full of life trash and feel good again!!
Don't slap me, cause I'm not in the mood!

Yeah, that is the actual title (long, I know!)
It's not sad really, I think it's beautiful (fitting to the title).

Sad songs seem to be my favourite. I really like songs that give me the chills.

"I Dont Like Mondays" Tori Amos (it was orginally by the Boomtown Rats or something like that but Tori's cover is so much more haunting)

    "Coma White" Marilyn Manson
"What a Wonderful World" Louis Armstrong
    "1000 Oceans" Tori Amos
"How To Save A Life" The Fray
"I Will Always Love You" Whitney Houston
"Always On My Mind" Elvis Presley
    "Big world" Emilia
    "With or Without You" U2
"If You're Not The One" Daniel Beddingfield
    "Goodbye" Spice Girls
"Time Of Your Life" Green Day
    "My Immortal" Evanescence
    "Unbreak my Heart" Toni Braxton
    "Only Time" Enya
"Because You Loved Me" Celine Dion
"Candle in the Wind" Elton John
    "Fast Car" Tracy Chapman
"Another Day in Paradise" Phil Collins
"Here Without You" 3 Doors Down
    "Wonderful" Everclear
    "Last Kiss" Pearl Jam
    "Hurt" Christina Aguilera
    "I'm Ok" Christina Aguilera
    "Stole" Kelly Rowland
    "Advertising Space" Robbie Williams
    "Better Man" Robbie Williams
    "Imagine" John Lennon
    "Tears in Heaven" Eric Clapton
    "Father and Son" Ronan Keating
"Wind Beneath My Wings" Bette Midler

And this one always makes me cry because Elvis wrote it for daughter Lisa Marie when he split from Priscilla.

I see a change is coming to our lives
Its not the same as it used to be
And its not too late to realise our mistake
Were just not right for each other

Love has slipped away left us only friends
    We almost seem like strangers
All thats left between us are the memories we shared
Of times we thought we cared for each other

Theres nothing left to do but go our separate ways
And pick up all the pieces left behind us
And maybe someday, somewhere along the way
    Another love will find us

Some day when shes older, maybe she will understand
Why her mom and dad are not together
The tears that she will cry when I have to say goodbye
Will tear at my heart forever

Theres nothing left to do but go our separate ways
And pick up all the pieces left behind us
And maybe someday, somewhere along the way
    Another love will find us

And this one about child abuse/death by Martina McBride is really sad.

    Concrete Angel
She walks to school with a lunch she packed
Nobody knows what she's holding back
Wearing the same dress she wore yesterday,
She hides the bruises with the linen and lace

The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask,
It's hard to see the pain behind the mask
Bearing the burdon of a secret storm,
Sometimes she wishes she was never born

Through the wind and the rain,
She stands hard as a stone in a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings and she flies to a place where she's loved.
    Concrete Angel

Somebody cries in the middle of the night,
The neighbors hear but they turn out the lights
A fragile soul caught in the hands of fate,
When morning comes it will be too late.

A statue stands in a shaded place,
    An angel girl with an upturned face;
Her name is written on a polished rock,
A broken heart that the world forgot.
