I actually just bought my first ever Chesney song, You and Tequila. I probably only like it because its a duet with Grace Potter. I've never understood his appeal.

I love The Doors and Elvis, so all your opinions are wrong.

I'm going to add The Beatles, because I've never liked their music (however influential they are), The Eagles, Rush, U2, Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson, and Beyonce. And I may catch flack for this, but I can't stand Joni Mitchell or Janis Joplin. My mom always made me listen to them as a kid and I was always tempted to jump out the car than suffer listening to either of those two.

Never got Janis Joplin either, but I did like Joni Mitchell. Don't know if she was overrated. But I always thought Janis was. Much like Amy Crackhouse.

Meryl doesn't even try anymore. She just calls Lanvin and asks for curtains with a belt.~Bitter
Can we interest you in Leann Rimes? She has a nice little cadre of fans you'd probably enjoy.~ Pecan Pie

Janis Joplin sang like she meant it. Not overrated at all.

I agree about The Doors and Pink Floyd. It grows on you. Acquired taste.
I can't believe I'm going to say this after years of taking the opposite stance but... Pink Floyd aren't bad at all. Roomie is a massive Floyd fan and I've had years of hearing it and hating it and then not so long ago I was looking for something chilled to put on and without thinking I picked up the Wish You Were Here cd and really enjoyed it. And since then I've sat through The Wall film and realised that I knew all the words to Comfortably Numb. Floyd affection really does creep up on you.
I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me. Hunter S Thompson

It makes me happy to read this.. WYWH might be my favorite Floyd album.

I can understand the Led Zeppelin sentiment, though, mostly because I know most Zep fans just kind of go overboard and shove it in your face a lot (like yours truly) and it gets annoying... but I still love them. Janis Joplin, however, I don't get.. I think her voice is powerful and emotive in a really unique way.

Calling blasphemy on the Lynyrd Skynyrd, Doors, Stones (ok, some of their stuff is a bit overblown), and the Who posts.

Yeah, her singing gives me chills. She's probably in my personal (highly subjective, yadda yadda) list of top ten female vocalists.

the ones i consider overrated are bands that have received commercial and critical recognition that goes way beyond what they deserve.
i'd say the biggest offenders are:

    metallica

    stone temple pilots

    muse

    u2

    coldplay

    death cab for cutie

    bright eyes

    the killers

    30 seconds to mars

    john mayer

    aerosmith

janet jackson (she's a horrible singer, her material sucks and she looks like shit. why is she even famous?)

    shakira

    red hot chili peppers

    soundgarden

    dave matthews band

    nickelback

the raconteurs/the white stripes/basically anything jack white does

aaliyah (dying young doesn't automatically mean you're talented)

    tom petty

placebo (seriously, why do people like this crap?)

    garbage

    no doubt/gwen stefani's solo shit

more to come but i have to go to lunch.
