joanna newsom. just her, her harp and piano. we kept clapping and she kept saying thank you.

John Zorn (Masada) last night, in a small theatre. wonderful doesn't even begin to describe it. that man is a genius and his band is incredible too. he's like some mad doctor/orchestra conductor except he moves around and it's funny how the other guys in the band have to keep an eye on him, even if it's out if the corner of their eye, because he'll give weird little cues and directions at any moment. you can tell he hears every detail, and there's improv, but it's definitely 'directed'. and he's a funny guy and interacts with the crowd but doesn't like to use a mic to do it, just screams stuff from the stage.

Saw Van Halen last week. First time I've been to a major concert since 2001 or 2002.

Going to see Def Leppard & Poison next week.

It's flashback to 1989 for me this summer! Love it!

I'm going to see bands that I was never allowed to go see when I was a teenager because my mom was so strict. (I've actually seen Def Leppard 3 times as an adult. Yes I'm a fantard & I don't care)

Last concert I went to was sadly Motley Crue over 3 years ago. I got tix last week for Morrissey with Iggy and the Stooges at Staples Center. It's the day after my birthday this fall!! Happy Birthday to me

Gods of Metal, last week (but technically it's a festival):

Adrenaline Mob
Amon Amarth
Children of Bodom
Manowar

(there were other bands before AMob, but it was too hot and they weren't interesting for me an my boyfriend, so we skipped them).

Manowar are still amazing live, after all these years.
They asked the fans if there was somebody that could play the guitar and then they picked a boy among those that raised their hand.
They asked him to go on stage and had him play a song with them.
After that, they signed the guitar and gave it to him.

All of this was not staged, he was just a boy from the public, and he played in front of about 20.000 people, with his idols.
I would have fainted!

It wasn't a concert, it was an event for the International AIDS Conference a couple of weeks ago. I heard Annie Lennox and Herbie Hancock do a couple of songs each and they were amazing. There were a couple of other people performing too but I didn't really notice them.
