got to get this out of the depth of theback pages because omg have i heard one of the best covers ever imo.

30 seconds to mars was on a radio show in the uk last friday where they covered kanye west's "stonger". who would have seen that coming?! but it was fantastic, they totally made "their own thing" out of it.

if anyone would like to hear it

What about Whitney Houston's cover of Dolly Parton's "I'll always love you"?

Some people prefer Dolly's version, but I think Whitney blows it out of the water. Dolly's version is more subtle, but Whitney's version just takes it to another level.

Another remake I liked was Traci Spencer's version of 'Imagine' by John Lennon. She made that song her own, and she was only 12 or 13 at the time.

Boyz To Men's version of 'It So Hard To say Goodbye' from the CooleyHigh movie is on point too.

Have ya'll ever heard of Dread Zepplin? They do great covers of Led Zepplin songs, only they do them to a reggae beat and have a lead singer that sings (and dresses) exactly like Elvis!

Yep, and you should definitely YouTube it! It's hilarious! She makes it all serious and emotional, but it's all in fun.

holy necro, batman but had my itunes on shuffle while posting and this song made me think of this thread (and inspired my new sig pic), anyhoo it's not so much a cover as a reinterpretation, blur's brilliant m.o.r. uses the melody from bowie's 'boys keeps swinging' but the end result is totally original. love this song.

Norah Jones does a really wonderful cover of Roxy Music's "More Than This"---as a bossa nova. It's wonderful. The first time I heard it I just stopped what I was doing and felt like I was floating.

Tori Amos chooses interesting covers, but they're always so ....sort of maudlin. However, her cover of "Strange Little Girls" rocks my socks. It's REALLY good.

I like Fiona Apple's cover of "Use Me" by Bill Withers. Anyone who covers Bill Withers knows what good music is.

Obadiah Parker's cover of OutKast's "Hey Ya". Who knew that song could sound so soft and almost folk-like.

I agree with Johnny Cash's "Hurt" also. I get all misty each time I hear it.

Marilyn Manson - David Bowie's Golden Years. Oh, and for a laugh, his cover of JT'S What Comes Around, Goes Around. It sounds like someone doing really bad karaoke.

Yeah, takes it to another level of decibels, mostly
I'm one of those who prefer Dolly's sweet version.
