bowie's fame is awesome. duran duran's cover is pretty good but bowie's delivery is hard to beat.

the talking heads' original of burning down the house is superior. and i like their cover of 'take me to the river' better too. one of the rare cases where the cover surpasses the original.

i'm partial to john cale and jeff buckley's versions. i adore leonard cohen's voice but i think this song benefits from a simple piano arrangement and cohen's version is a little much, i think it would be way better without the back-up singers and gospel-ish vibe.
jeff buckley's is the most visceral. i remember listening to it when 'grace' first came out and before he died and became a tragic hero and i was literally moved to tears. that thing should come with a warning label, especially for hormonal, over-emotional adolescents.

Jeff Buckley. All the way. I remember howling when the news came through that he'd died and Triple J played that song.

Great White over Ian Hunter... as much as I like Ian Hunter, Great White is a great cover band. It's a tie between David Bowie and Nirvana.

amy whinehouse sucks. don't really care for creedence clearwater revival. i like marvin gaye's version but the backing vocals have always bothered me. i think i'll go with gladys knight & the pips. hearing her sing, makes me wanna get up & dance.
