    Default Best female singer

    Hi!
I have just finished reading a thread about Beyonce and I was amazed how many people said they thought she is a horrible singer! So, who do you guys consider to be a good singer?( Someone popular, please! ) What makes a singer a good one? His "Technical" abilities, range, or expressivness??

I actually think the mentioned Beyonce is a pretty talented singer( technically that is, and she has a great voice), but she does oversing at times.
Another one is Christina Aguilera- same problem though.

mariah is great, although I hate it when she starts off almost whispering with this husky voice and by the end of the song she is screaming at the top of her lungs.

So,anyways, who do u think is the best!???

Though I am not a fan of her, I would have to say Mariah, who else has her vocal range?

I've always liked Whitney Houston. She is a truly gifted singer. Her vocals are so powerful, and emotional. She can definitely stir your soul. It's too bad she has all these troubles, but without a doubt, this woman can SING!

Madonna. Not for her vocal skills, It's for her way of perform music.

I like Martina McBride even though I am not a fan of country music. Ever since "Independance Day" I've been a fan of hers.

I'm going to go Christina Aguilera because of the range of music she can sing and, unlike Mariah, doesnt always feel the need to hit the high notes. Her stripped album showed a very versitile singer with a big voice but who learnt that sometimes holding back had more depth to it then going all out.

That said, I've always ben a fan of women who dont have perfect voices but have a lot of character to them. Especially women who could sing deep and growl words. I've always been a big fan of Bif Naked.

I say Madonna too, she's my favourite singer.
Even if she doesn't have Mariah's vocal range I just love the sound of her voice.

Another one I like is Christina Aguilera.
Beyoncè is good too, but in general I don't like those who oversing.

OT: I don't like at all Jennifer Lopez' voice.

J.Ho doesnt have any talent to fall back on except her ass.

I love Mariah from the start but I also love Xtina to death. She definately showed off on 'Stripped'. Not only that, she made her voice work with different choices of music. Mariah can sing her ass off, which makes me cry at times. Blind folded..........I'd choose both!

(yeah showing my age, but damned, compared to todays "singers" it's a shame talent went out of style).

i don't like all those singers who do that funny "oooohhhhooohhhoohhoooooooohhhhhhhh" ... erm hard to explain, when their voices go up and down and they sound all "shaky"

sarah mclachlan is a great singer. all those mariahs, whitneys etc don't do it for me. i find the "unusual" and in a way different female singers a lot more talented and better, like tori amos and kate bush.

I tend to just go for voices that I like, not necessarily technically good voices. Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, Jewel are a few. I like Christina Aguilera's voice. I can't stand Mariah's... I want to shoot myself in the face every time I hear her. One that I always argue with people about is Avril Lavigne. Yes, Avril! I'm not a fan of her music, but I think her voice is pretty and sweet. Listen to the acoustic version of "Nobody's Home"... I think her voice is lovely.

Mariah Carey has such a wonderful voice. And I loved her comeback.
I also like a lot Liz Phair's voice.
Like a lot of you, I also like Christina's voice (I loved her on the song Beautiful)
