Music Videos - good or bad

So I finally sat down and watched some MTV today (of course it was Tivo'd - couldn't sit through the commericals!) Anyhow, I got to thinking - do videos make or break the song for you? What is the point of the video? I 'used' to like some songs like Audioslave's "Doesn't Remind Me", but then I saw the horrible video and now I hate the song because it 'reminds' me of the video.
Am I alone in this? Guess I won't be watching any more videos on TV!

Yeah, that's the way it is with me sometimes. Thankfully, I don't have MTV anymore, but I still see the same vids on Canadian Much Music. I used to love the Foo Fighters' "Resolve", but they just put a video out for it: one of the stupidest things I have ever seen. I don't like the song much anymore.

Videos can be brilliant though.. like Chris Cunninghams gorgeous piece for Bjork's "All is full of love"... basically 2 white robots being put together, and making love.. it's sensual, gorgeously shot and brilliant.

I used to like that Natasha Bedingfield song "These Words" but then I saw the video, and it was a whole bunch of walking radios which ruined it for me. Now I can't stand that song.

I LOVE that video, Grimm! It's so beautiful.

I've grown up with music videos, started watching them when I was very young... like 5. I'm still fascinated by them in a hypnotic sort of way, even if I don't like the song. There's been a lot of videos I've loved... one of my favorites is Blur's video for Coffee & TV... with the little milk carton that goes out into the world. It's adorable.

I wish MTV and VH1 were still about videos.

I love that video also muchlove, its so cute.
I LOVE Gorillaz's "Dare", my son played the song for me yesterday and I had to look it up on Yahoo. I also like "Feel Good, Inc" but then I can turn around and watch Enya's "Amarantine" then watch anything by the Ramones. My taste in music is sooo broad.

I'm a sucker for goofy videos. Older ones like The Cars' "You Might Think", Foo Fighters' "Big Me", Weezer's "Buddy Holly".

I haven't seen a video in a while though - the last one I saw was 30 Seconds to Mars "Attack" which I liked. I also liked Linkin Park's "Breaking the Habit".

When I had MuchMusic I loved anything from Milo and Simon.

There are some brilliant exceptions of course, but most videos these days are soft porn, especially the RnB/HipHop stuff. BORING!

i hate them videos its just one big booty shake. these huge asses hanging out of bikini bottoms just wiggling everywhere thinking they look absolutely fab!

Occasionally a video shows a glimmer of inspiration. The Smashing Pumpkins
have made a couple of good ones -- "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" and
"Tonight," the homage to The Trip to the Moon -- and I like the Weezer
one mentioned above, but for the most part they're pretty much
boring.

we have a music video program here called Rage on free to air. It plays all night and all morning Friday/Saturday/Sunday. The only time I watch it is when someone interesting is a guest programmer, usually on Saturday night. Most music videos now are so dull, but then again so is most of the music.

I hate when the most interesting thing a band can come up with is 'hey lets play our instruments, like were playing a show and...like...act all deep but tough and maybe have some rain and some screaming fans. Yeah that sounds cool. *rolls eyes*

Radiohead's "Just" is pretty kick-ass. And I agree with lots of those already mentioned. And um... the Red Hot Chili Peppers video-game animated one was kind of fun to watch. Garbage has some cool videos as well, not brilliant, but neato.
