i definitely agree with you abou those three albums.
i love music! here are some of my favourites.
*tom waits. possibly my favourite musician ever. it's all good, but some of my favourite albums are 'frank's wild years', 'foreign affairs', 'rain dogs', 'closing time', 'heartattack and vine', and 'nighthawks at the diner', which is probably the best live performance ever.
*talking heads. so many good albums, but definitely 'stop making sense', 'fear of music' and 'sand in the vaseline'
*nick cave. my faves are 'the boatman's call' and 'murder ballads' (especially 'henry lee', the duet with pj harvey)
*wu-tang clan. and a lot of their solo stuff. i love the 'ghost dog' soundtrack, 'enter the wu-tang', 'the w', 'iron flag'. i think people are turned off hip-hop by the crap that's on the radio, but there's also so much good stuff out there
*wilco. 'yankee hotel foxtrot'
*blur. 'think tank'. the whole album is perfection
*devendra banhart. 'niño rojo'
*nick drake
*air. 'talkie walkie'
*lambchop. great band from nashville. kind of a country band (alt country), but sort of obsessed with soul (curtis mayfield mostly), there's 13 of them, and they're like nothing you've ever heard. and they're one of the best live bands i've ever seen. i especially love 'what another man spills' and 'nixon'
*calexico. love them all, especially 'hot rail'
*aesop rock. 'bazooka tooth'
*the streets. 'a grand don't come for free'
*blackalicious. 'blazing arrow'

vinicius de morães, toquinho, joao and astrud gilberto, antonio carlos jobim, milton nascimento, maria bethania and all the other classic brazilian singers. my parents had all their albums, as well as stan getz' samba records, so i grew up listening to them, and they're still staples in my cd collection.
