I bought it, just had a good listen to it...
It's OK. It's already better than the very maudlin 2nd album from young Avril, but is in no way better or anywhere near as good as Let Go. This one suffers in the same way Under My Skin did- many songs are too samey. If you don't listen to the album a lot you wouldn't know the difference. Two of the ballads on this start almost identical, which is a shame. And for the first time, I dislike some of Avril's songs. I hate when she goes all girly on us.
Wait, she had a second album after Let Go? Dang, I've been out of the loop.
What I want to know is why is she still pushing the rebellious but cute middle school girl who steals boyfriends act when she is a married 22-year-old? Didn't her management think there would be a logistics problem there? It makes no sense, like they're trying to keep her 15 years old forever.
Well, that's the thing that really gets me. She has a good voice (I like it, it's even and strong) and I actually like the music, it's catchy. But if I feel like an idiot singing the lyrics, ("She's, like, so whatever!") can you imagine how she feels?
And the image, FFS why is she decked out in pink skulls, short skirts, fishnets and pink-streaked hair? Whether you're marketing her to 13 year-olds or 22-year-olds, it's inappropriate either way.
