Default Bands That Have Similar Style...

...or solo artists. Or songs as well.

Coldplay, Nickelback, Creed- all sound the same

Paris Hilton - wannabe Gwen Stefani

Fergie "London Bridge" - Gwen Stefani "Hollaback Girl"

    Simple Plan + Blink 182 = Greenday

Jessica Simpson "A Public Affair"- Madonna "Holiday"

It would never occur to me to put Coldplay in with Nickelback and Creed. They don't sound anything alike, imo. And I'm not in love with any of them, I just find them different. Coldplay sounds more like an immature Radiohead to me, with a little U2 mixed in. To each her own, though.

I do agree Nickelback and Creed sound damn similar, and both are cheap imitations of Pearl Jam. Default sounds basically the same as well. Silverchair takes the Pearl Jam imitation to the next level - and by that I mean: they're better musicians who also happen to rip off Pearl Jam more closely.

Ooh, I know there are others, but they're not coming to mind at the moment. Interesting thread!

I found this the other day & now I love it!

You put in the name of a band you love/feel like hearing and then it creates a play list based on bands that sound like it. You can just sit back, relax and enjoy great music catered specifically to your mood, or play around it and discover crazy obscure new music.

if you like discovering new music and you listen to a lot of music on your computer you should also check out: www.last.fm

you download a plugin for you music player, it uploads the names of the songs you listen to and creates a neighbor list and suggestions based on what you listen to.

btw, that pandora site is friggin cool! great find Covergerl!

hehe thanks, I've got a rubber chicken next to my computer so it was easy to think of.

I guess you could clump all of those bands into the indie rock classification. The first set was part of a group of bands known as the elephant six collective. They layered crazy instrumentation into a cohesive sound.

The second group can all be considered post-punk type bands. They draw on influences like Joy Division and The Cure. The Bravery and The Killers kinda fit into this category too but their sound is more synthy than those four. Howling Bells sound so much like Interpol it's sad. There's no reason for them to exist when there's already another band just like them but better.

Jens Lekman and Magnetic Fields (Stephen Merritt) share similar lyrical styles, vocal timbre, and lo-fi production values.

The last two, I think it's the lead singers, they sound almost identical to me.

You've probably heard more of this than you think you have. I hear "indie" rock in commercials all the time now. Saturn, the Gap, Target, all sorts of places.

I'm finding that all those emo bands sound alike; i cant tell them apart, I dont care for the music though, so I dont bother.

And that PANDORA site is awesome! Just what I wanted! I always never know what the hell to download, and i know there's a zillion great songs out there that I'd love to death. This site does all that, awesome!

ok, Panic at the Disco, Fall out Boy, and all those emo rockers who sing those dumb angsty songs about how their parents aren't their friends.
