LOL - key words are 'chronic legend'.......... Latina singing sensations don't go down a storm in Oz, we don't have a latino community to support the dream. If she was a Vietnamese, Chinese, Croatian, Greek, Italian, diva then I'd have a clue.

She was way famous in Texas. I went to Astroworld shortly after she was killed and if I had had a nickel for every latina youngster wearing a "Selena La Reina" t-shirt, I could have dropped out of uni!

I hate that people say her death made her famous. In Mexico and Texas we knew who she was long before she died. She won a Grammy, but before that we danced to her.

We knew who she was down in Austin; they played her music on the radio and occasionally played her songs in latin dance bars, though most of it was too Tejano for that. I remember that bidi bidi bom bom song was popular, and that amor prohibido song was all over the place.

Como una flor was big too. I put Selena on and shook my ass off at Kruger Park. Prince Phillip was cooking on the brai and I was playing Selena. It may be facile but as a Texas girl I think she would have liked the idea of her shit rocking South Africa.

I didnt know who she was until the "Dreaming of You" cd came out. But I think that was released after she died, so really, I probably didnt know about her until after she died.

I think there are different levels of fame. She was "famous" in the sense that she was recognised by people in this one area of the world, but her death was what made her like, world wide famous. Or at least continent wide...
