    Default Coolest women in music

inspired by that lame ass elle feature, i decided i'd make my own list of coolest women in music.
feel free to post your own.

tina weymouth (talking heads, tom tom club).

    probably my favourite.
gave talking heads their awesomely funky bass hooks and was lead singer of tom tom club.

    patti smith.

    jane birkin.

the original gap-toothed chanteuse. slinky, sultry, sexy with a wisp of a voice. and she's let herself age gracefully. no PS, no fussiness, still the same jeans and trainers. and she still looks awesome.

    kim gordon (sonic youth)
    mother of indie rock

    because she's cool as hell.

    françoise hardy.

the coolest of the chanteuses. great voice. always classy. (incredible bone structure too).

    nico (the velvet underground).

an icon. and that deep, germanic voice.

    pj harvey.

    karen o (yeah yeah yeahs)

one of the few band leaders today in the tradition of the great art rock giants like talking heads, bowie, roxy music.

    grace jones.

    needs no introduction.

    marianne faithfull

    lovefoxxx (css)

because seeing her perform live is a party.

    chan marshall (cat power)

    great songwriter and singer.

    debbie harry (blondie)

kathleen hanna (bikini kill, le tigre)

    original riot grrrrl

    laetitia sadier (stereolab)

    dolly parton

    Nice list. I'd add:

    Siouxsie Sioux

    Ari Up

    Chrissie Hynde

    Nina Hagen

    Lora Logic & Poly Styrene

I love this group shot- Chrissie Hynde, Debbie Harry, Viv Albertine, Siouxsie, Poly Styrene, and Pauline London

Awesome! Love so many of these women but my love for Patti Smith and PJ Harvey just knows no bounds. And how cool is it that you included Dolly Parton! I adore her!

    My faves:

Grace Slick (Jefferson Airplane). Read about her life someday. Burning sexuality and I love her voice!!!

    Diamanda Galas. Insane goth queen!

Lisa Gerrard (Dead Can Dance) What a voice!

    Lydia Lunch:

I know I'm leaving out several but most of the rest of my faves are in the thread already

your burning sexuality description makes me think it was quite fitting then that the 'white rabbit' album was playing on the stereo when i lost my virginity lol
