I think she's selfish, self-centered, uneducated, has a substance abuse problem and has the emotional age of a 15yo. If she does have a mental illness, I would bet it's in the personality disorder family, instead of bi-polar.

I have a hard time believing her mental issues. To me, her "craziness" seems so calculated and planned out. It would be more believable if she didn't always try to one-up herself. Then there is her timing. If anyone steals her thunder, you know she's going to do something bigger and better to get back on top. Who wasn't sitting back waiting for her to do something totally outrageous, after her sister announced she was pregnant. I didn't know what she was going to do, but I knew she was going to do something.

I can't feel bad for her either. I can't help but think she likes being crazy. She gets all this attention, everyone is talking about her, shit she got to watch herself on CNN. This is just yet another thing that she can place blame on, other than herself.

Voted for Other. I agree with Bogs, she's doing all this crap for attention and she knows it. Especially the "steals her thunder part".When her little sis got pregnant, what did she do? Oh yeah she holed herself up in her mansion and got rescued by an ambulance and hordes of police and paps.

She's an idiot yes, but she's clever enough to be going around showing her pad and ratty haired ass everywhere for the attention. She'll need it too because her album flopped and theres not other way for her to get that attention she craves.

I have to agree, she's never been terribly bright... I'm positive she has some form of mental illness, but hey, if she's not going to address it, who can? It's going to be so hard to have her involuntary committed.

I'll agree with previous comments that say her issues have been exacerbated by drug use.

I think the fact she's 'Britney Spears' plays a large role in this too. Plus she loves attention, she cannot go a whole week without it.

This is a good summary of my opinion. I'm not convinced that she has a mental illness, but I'm no expert. Her behaviour seems very calculated to me as well.

Also, someone mentioned that she doesn't appear to have a true friend in the world and I would agree with this also. In fact, it seems like she wants a best friend or girl friends in the worst way, but she attracts the worst sort of people because she doesn't know how to cultivate a mutually rewarding relationship.

The reason I think she desperately desires a close circle of girlfriends is because of her most recent videos. Like that one "Do Something" where she's driving around in a pink Hummer with some other girls. Or the more recent "Gimme More" where she's at a club with a group of girls. It just seems like she is trying to create an image of what she wants and doesn't have.

Ok, now that I re-read that, I may be giving her too much credit.

Compare Britney pre-divorce and Britney post-divorce - two completely different people. For that rapid of a personality change there's more going on than just self-centered stupidity.

I think she's manic depressive. Her behaviour over the past year are classic examples of manic behaviour. Considering what happened right before she first started exhibiting the crazy I'm surprised it's taken this long for people to jump on the mental illness bandwagon. First she has two babies in less than a year, gets a divorce and a beloved aunt dies. Just one of those things is enough to challenge a person, I couldn't imagine being hit with them all in just a matter of months.

On top of all that imagine being the main breadwinner for your entire family, being sold-out by so-called friends, not being able to trust anyone, and everyone jumping down your throat everytime you exit your house. I'd have a mental breakdown too if all that was on my shoulders.

Basically..yeah. I agree. I would put drug abuse first. I think she's utterly drugged out and has been for some time. Probably meth, but I think she regularly abuses legal, prescription drugs--lots of them, all at once, with booze.

Oh yes...and add STUPID. She was always a bit of a dim bulb, though she also used to be kinda sweet sometimes...back in the prehistoric past...

I think she's mentally ill & it just appears that it's due to drugs.

I've read so many stories recently and I have a few questions.

What I don't understand is the contradicting drug/alcohol abuse stories. When her mother "made" her go into rehab she was tested for everything under the sun & she had no drugs nor alcohol in her system.

Most recently when she was taken to the hospital from her home. The police officers stated, matter-of-factly, that she was obviously under some type of drug... prescription or non-prescription. But when they tested her, nothing was found in her system.

Does everyone believe the toxicology results are fraudulent because she's Britney? Why would that matter? Nothing else is off-limits to release to the public, so why not the factual toxicology report?
