Who hates/likes Oprah Winfrey? Why? - Page 2

The only reason Dr Phil is so successful is because Oprah gave him the chance and he grabbed it with both hands. The only reason Oprah is so successful is because some TV exec gave her the chance and she grabbed it. Both are smart people who know how it works, and both have become extremely wealthy in the process. It's partly luck, partly talent and partly the smarts to understand how TVLand works and how to manipulate it for your own personal gain. Both Oprah and Dr Phil have totally sold out IMO and what little respect I had for them before has totally gone now. Dr Phil drags his wannabe son and Stepford wife on the show now........ At least Oprah doesn't do that, but she loves to suck up to celebs.

BTW I am still amazed to learn that Dr Phil had a first wife from whom he divorced in very unhappy circs. If you believe the Dr Phil Story he and Stepford Robyn were highschool sweethearts and he managed to win her from her snooty family with his charm and good character.

Dr. Phil is no guru, he is not enlightened, he is no genius. Some of the stuff he says is BS, but he does, on the whole, hit the nail on the head with a whole bunch of people.

And I don't think Oprah sold out. Sell-outs lead a completely different lifestyle. Assuming she did sell out, how? What did she intend to do in the beginning (20 years ago) and has she strayed from that path solely for profit and a life of luxury? That's what sell-outs do. They sacrifice their standards, their personal ethics, all for a dollar and glory. Oprah has yet to do that.

YES! I am in complete agreement. She seems to almost believe her own hype and that is never a good thing imo. She does do so much for people and you cannot take that away from her, yet at the same time I think SOME of it is a bit self serving....

Hey yea, how come no on ever challenges Dr Phil on his marriage advice--and never says Gee Dr Phil what was your divorce like?? Why does he not own up to that?? I don't get it...

That's why I roll my eyes at ole Dr. Phil. He comes across like he has the answers to everything, like he's so damn perfect, and we all know: no human being is above reproach.

At least Oprah admits her own shortcomings!

I guess I am confused as to the reason not one single guest or journalist has ever asked him to acknowledge his first marriage? I am absolutely baffled by this. Does he have so much power that not one interviewer will ask him that? God I hope not.

I saw him on David Letterman recently and they clearly both detest each other. You could feel the waves of mutual hostility. David was chipping away with smartarse comments, niggling at Dr Phil who 'did a Tom Cruise' and looked like he was about to deck DL at any moment, especially when DL asked some not-very-subtle questions about Dr Phil's son and his forthcoming nuptuals to a Playboy 'model'.

I don't LOVE Oprah, but I like her for what she has accomplished and that she dares to show off her not-so-strong sides too. She has helped so many people and done so much good that I really don't care if she comes off as a little... silly. The audience screams, she's on the cover of each and every O-magazine, and she makes strange sounds when she eats chocolate. But who cares? I sure don't.

Meh. I'd do the same thing if I was Oprah. Your 50th birthday is a milestone and it should be celebrated!! As I stated in an earlier post, my dad (a minor celebrity back home) threw a big bash for his 50th, and he raised about $25,000 for his alma mater. Do you dislike him, too?? And don't chicken out by saying "No, I don't know your father" because you don't know Oprah either!

One of Oprah's cousins was a garbage man up until about... 3 months ago. He finally retired. He's about 80. I've seen him with my own eyes, lugging cans of trash down people's driveways. (He was the garbageman of someone I know.)

Oprah has a kadrillion dollars... why was her cousin an 80 year old garbage man???????

I'm curious, too! I'm sure she's offered to help out her family, and I'm sure they've accepted the help. Maybe she offered help, but being a black man from an entirely different generation, he may have declined the help because it'd be an admission that he is a failure in life. Or something. Who knows?

I just gotta wonder: is this 80 yr old cousin any relation to the person who molested her? I can't remember if it was an uncle or a family friend, but she was molested between 9 and 14 years old.

Yeah, he probably is related... he's a Winfrey, so I think he has to be, if it was her dad or someone on her dad's side of the family that molested her.

It's possible that he didn't want help, but it just seemed odd to me.
