I don't think that's true at all. Plenty of men are able to see this obvious "look-at-me!" behavior for what it is and find it pathetic. And even for the ones who can't help but get momentarily caught up in the sexuality around it, by now they have probably seen this behavior so much from so many women that it's commonplace and they don't waste time getting all jacked up over it unless drunk or stupid or a recipient of the 10,000 to one chance that said chicks indicate to him that not only are they for real and not just showing off, but he actually has a chance of getting in the middle of that shit in a 3some and fucking them both.
In other words, it worked better when it wasn't so commonplace and was actually shocking. When even a horny male can sense you're full of shit it's over.

Ummm, WOW! What an interesting thread. I have a daughter who is about to turn 11, and who (for now, anyway) thinks boys are stupid, and really only cares about her favorite major league baseball team. Total tomboy, so I'm hoping all this won't be an issue for awhile.
I do think that this is all a result of the oversexualiztion of our culture. I would never want to go back to the days when sex was a secret and dirty, and never to be discussed. But we've gone too far in the opposite direction. MTV is a perfect example. Remember when it first came on? It was mostly live concert videos, and a few highly stylized videos. Then came Whitesnake, and that pretty, sexy girl who was all legs and hair writhing all over the hood of a car. It was hot. So then everyone felt the need to outdo that level of sexiness. Pretty soon you couldn't tell the difference between soft core porn and some of these videos. Once my kids became old enough to use a remote, we blocked MTV, BET and all the rest because even just flicking past on the way to the Disney channel could be dangerous, LOL. Then came the reality shows, especailly the MTV ones, where it is acceptable to act like a total whore. And once the kids growing up start seeing that everyday, they think it is normal, even expected, behavior. As far as the thong for 8 year olds...when my daughter was out of the toddler sizes, and into the little girl ones, we had a few years where we had to waaaaay over pay for clothes from Land's End and LL Bean, because that was the only way to get shirts that covered her stomach. Now that she is pre-teen, trying to find jeans that cover her asscrack is the challenge. I'm by no means a prude, but I am tired of having to be so super vigilant with the TV, such a killjoy with the clothes. Why can't our kids be kids, and why can't the media stop promoting sexuality as self esteem?
Apparently you guys hit a nerve here, LOL

I think this is an excellent point. Loved your post. Females of all ages fall for the whole "you have to be sexy to have self esteem" idea that just never stops spewing out of our culture. Its so redundant, and the older I get the more I can see through it.

We also live in a society where men are treated like they can always "do better". Thus we have men who think, despite their balding head and beer guts can land a fucking playboy model.
Women go along with this shit and are fighting for the attentions of these shlubs.
Its just ick all around.

There's also the staggering hypocricy of it being OK for attention seeking hetero girls to 'make out' but if a couple of lesbians starting pashing on the dance floor those same girls would be squealing 'ew, gross, get a room' etc etc.
It worries me that young women today have so little self-respect that they think demeaning themselves with fake displays of girl-on-girl action is 'liberated'. Since when was it cool to behave like a common slut?

I loved this post from you AO.
I also loved whomever posted that they wish that over sexuality would stop being presented as self esteem. I think many girls who claim that being over sexualized actually arent confident comfortable or have high self esteem. I usually found at school that the girls who acted like big sluts actually only did it to hurt themselves, or using it as a way to fish for compliments. I agree that sometimes dressing sexily can make you feel good, but theres sexy and then there is cheap whore.

I think a lot of women use sex to get attention so they feel worthy. I know this isn't a newsflash . . .
The more attention they get the more they feel "loved." even if all they're getting is used or ogled at.

That is so true. It shame. I think it should be the other way around. Women should feel that a man should do whatever it is so that they are worthy of woman time.

Then I can buy it's not bullshit. Otherwise, it's all for attention.

I know quite a few girls who like kissing/fondling each other in public. They only do it in front of guys for the attention they receive. Most of the time they end up sleeping with a guy that likes that shit. I say thanks for showing me who the skanks are, that way I can avoid them in the future.LOL
